sounds like they are, offense sounds great, especially Penland. It seems like he is either running the ball or they are throwing to him every down.

Our offense has had 5 plays for 45 yards though...just got caught up on a 3rd and short one time.

McNeese 14, App 7 at halftime. App had a receiver fumble the ball into the end zone just before halftime with McNeese recovering. Very happy with McNeese's physical ability to hang in. Offense has looked good except they had two key third downs where they had receivers there and didn't execute. One was dropped and Fourroux had a bad throw on the other one. The drop was at about the App State 5. App State's had some of the same kinds of things happen. Had a guy open deep and missed him, fumbled into the end zone. Got down to inside the 10 and missed the field goal.

Tell you this, though, McNeese matches up well with App State speed wise.

By the way, the fumble near the goal line was because the App State receiver was sticking the ball out trying to get it over the goal line. When I'm pulling a team I hate it when they do that just for that reason. Just protect the ball. If you go down you're at the one yard line and you've been running the ball real well.

Since I'm pulling for the other team, though, I'm glad he did it.

I don't know if "stuck it to them" is the right terminology. As I expected McNeese's defense couldn't stop Appalachian State's offense. What I did not expect was the performance McNeese got out of its offense. And they managed to score to take the lead with only 4 seconds left so App State's offense couldn't be a factor.

An interesting thing to me is that McNeese had a chance to score with over a minute left. Wideout Immanuel Friddle was behind the App Secondary by a long way. If Forroux hits him in stride he scores. But Fourroux underthew him so he had to go down to catch it.

As it turned out I think that worked to McNeese's advantage because had they scored there App State's offense would've had time to operate again.

We just got back to the hotel in Asheville (they got some damn windy curvy roads in NC!!). Great game, great FCS atmosphere, fantastic new facilities at ASU and very classy fans. And a big win for the cowboys.

I do have one opinion to throw out there regarding home crowd noise and the home field advantage that comes with it. The ASU student section is awesome their cheers are great. Wash-Griz I am afraid takes the noise title. The north endzone in Missoula is a true force and the close proximity to the field (no track around the field) results in a louder crowd (although smaller than ASU) IMO

I would say something, but you're completely right. There is no defense for GSU. App will rebound, they're just still a little burned from ECU. GSU on the other hand... I just have no idea what to say.

Was at the game. First and foremost, hats off to the Cowboys; played a great game and deserved to win.

I'm glad we have this week off. Defense needs a retooling (duh). Offense looked sharp, I thought, and Armanti seems to be back on track. When your offense can put up 35 points against a quality team, I think it's fair to ask your defense to get a key stop or two. Didn't happen yesterday.

BOONE, N.C. — Josh Lewis’ 18-yard field goal with four seconds remaining was the difference in No. 2 Appalachian State University’s 40-35 loss to No. 16 McNeese State on Saturday at Kidd Brewer Stadium.

Lewis’ kick snapped a 35-35 tie and capped McNeese’s 10-play, 79-yard drive that began with 2:05 left to play. Appalachian lateralled the ensuing kickoff three times in hopes of a miracle return but MSU’s Kentrel Butler dragged down Travaris Cadet in the end zone for a safety to end the game and account for the final margin.

The Cowboys’ game-winning drive was indicative of the entire second half, as the teams combined for eight scores in 10 second-half possessions. Trailing 14-7 at halftime, the Mountaineers took the opening kickoff of the second half and marched 77 yards in eight plays to knot the score at 14-14 on an eight-yard touchdown run by Armanti Edwards. From there, the squads traded touchdowns on the next four series, all within a span of 8:42. However, Lewis was wide right on an extra-point attempt following McNeese’s second touchdown of the period, which allowed Appalachian to grab its only lead of the game at 28-27.

Its bad when you would rather run the clock out in the redzone than try to score with 2 minutes left.

There is no word to describe our defense yesterday and the coaching behind it. There are a number of things you could do to stop the way they ran the offense, and we did none of them. I just don't get it.

I think this is honestly an easier loss to take because we got out-played, and out-coached. Every App fan should feel as though we can only get better, and if the D plays up to potential we could dominate everyone, but clearly we were far from potential today.

Great game McNeese. We owe you a home loss. Haha
