I hope we don't play that poorly again all year. However, if we can win in an environment like this one against an allegedly strong team, then I will shut up and take the W.

If by amazing you mean horribly played, then yes, it has.

You know your team better than i do, looked like a competitive game where both teams missed opprotunities.

Agreed. Wins at UD are rare by opponents. Consider your team lucky.

What we learned from this game.
UR made some costly errors
Delvin looked okay. Made some bad passes that gave UR might mo and the game.
UR and UD defenses are for real. Good defensive battle.
UR needs to tighten up that running game if it has ANY hopes for a title this year. 31 rushes for 60 yards just pathetic.
Ward looked great. He was finding the holes in the secondary.
and UD kicker cant get over the UR hump.
Good game UR. Unlucky break UD.

We had a 21 yd FG to beat the #1 team in the nation, if I was told that situation at 3:29 today I'd roll over thanking God. We had it, and choked. You don't anticipate a blocked FG from that close because you figure your kicker could elevate it real quick because length was not a concern. 3 guys could have blocked that kick. Slow snap, and terrible in lifting the ball.

Excuse me while I go throw up.

Agree.

But, to me, UR looked way more...........flat, slow, lethargic, uninspired, had too many penalties and too many mistakes. And their playcalling, atrocious at times.

I, too, thought UR played flat, especially on offense, for about 2/3 of the game, but Coach London, E. Ward, et al, got the "W". Don't show this game tape to the 6th-gradersxsmhx. I expect a much sharper UR team when I visit UR Stadium in two weeks.

Was it me, or does Devlin only run a 5.0? He just doesn't seem mobile enough to run that offense; maybe a basic Pro-I. He missed at least 6-7 simple down and outs. And, like others have posted, very bad fundamentals by the UD field goal team there at the end, but K. Grayson can leap!!

A brutal loss.. Richmond is a better team right now.. but UD should have won this game. This is the second time in KC's tenure that I've seen the Hen's get a last second game winning FG blocked by UR and both times the ball was inside the UR 10 yrd line... xeekx ... UD was the better team for the first 25 minutes.. but UR was the better team after that. UD 's defense should give them a chance to win a lot of games.. but the Hen's young offense has to improve for them to have a shot at the playoffs.

Congrats to UR.. they are a very good team and they know how to win.. something this UD team has yet to learn.

Devlin is a very good QB...it's hard to run the offense when one of the best defenses in FCS knows you can't run on them. As far as his forty time...did you see the lone touch down we had? He's not only mobile...he breaks tackles...

Great win for UR...see you in the playoffs.

Had the #1 team beat today, basically kicking a PAT and Striefsky makes a brutal kick, no excuses why he can't get that higher.

I feel so terrible for Richmond fans who had to endure just a terrible effort by their team. It was so bad, the other team didnt convert on basically an extra point to take the game away from the no. 1 spiders. Ironically the Richmond players celebrated with their fans as if they just won a playoff game when in fact Richmond players should have run off the field in shame since they didn't win by 30+.

Someone on our board pointed out the danger of Richmond coming out flat after the big road win against Duke last week. Not only did that happen, but someone forgot to tell them being the defending champs and no 1 would have their opponents fired up and ready to play. Hope we learned the lesson from this game and bring it from the beginning.

The Spiders have a history of blocking field goals at critical times. Did the same thing against W&M last season to get into the playoffs.

We didn't come out flat. We played a team that was every bit as good as we are ... and were fortunate to win.

I agree that you were fortunate to win.. but UR is the better team right now.. hopefully UD will improve enough to close that gap as the season progressess. Best of luck to the Spiders the rest of the way.

2nd one this year, we knew going in that long snapping would be an issue.

I still have four years of eligibility - maybe I can get a scholarship to UR grad school as a long-snapper?

Watch the reply. Bad snap and just a terrible hold. The snap was bounced to the holder and then the holder had the ball sideways. That's hard on a kicker.

My only prediction is that by 11:45 I'll have a cold one in my hand standing outside of the Tub.

Should be a great game.

I was a little off. Had the cold on in hand at 11:35.

It was a great game though and we had a great time. The UD fans were great hosts. We had a few UR tents set up in a row in lot #2 in the corner of the lot. A great time by all.

A very sloppy game by both teams, but you can see the talent that is there. I think that UD will make some noise this year.

Richmond came out flat and lost the first half by only a point.

Richmond was not flat in the second half and, except for a bad UD snap and kick, and aided by a poor reversed fumble call, almost lost the second half by a point. xeyebrowx

Kudos to UR. Your team bent but did not break in the beginning. xthumbsupx You will need to develop a run game if you are to repeat. xnodx

Have to say it was a nice game atmosphere. It reminds me of Georgia Southern as far as fan participation goes. The Blue Hens are great host. The weather was not so good pre-game but like a true champion it gave into the game. The game could have gone either way. Both teams made mistakes and both teams rebounded. Delvin is as good as you all say if not better. I look for great things coming out of NewarK.

SunCoastBlueHen
September 14th, 2009, 08:22 AM
I have absolutely no idea what to expect from the Hens in this game. Richmond is a good team, we can be pretty sure of that. Delaware is a better team than last year, but how much better? I would feel better about the Hen's chances had TE Josh Baker not been lost to a knee injury last week. He may have been Delaware's second most valuable offensive weapon next to Devlin - from both a blocking and pass catching standpoint.

I'll stake a stab in the dark and say that the Hen's will make a game of it, but the offense will be slowed just enough by absence of Baker to allow the Spiders to eke out a narrow victory in a low scoring contest.

UR 16
UD 13

A very minor consolation, but my prediction was pretty darn close to accurate. :)

Not going to read through 31 pages so forgive me.

- First off, the Hen loss was clearly my fault. I brought my brother in law to the game and I was giving him some Hen history and as the game wore on I told him about the 2002 game in Richmond with a first year transfer QB and the Hens losing on a blocked chip shot. Then after the final completion to the 9 I said we need to score a TD because I didn't want to relive 2002 all over again. I jinxed it. xoopsx xnonono2x xbawlingx

- Great game. I think both teams looked good. Glad to not see the Hens run that damned wildcat crap this week.

- I would have to believe that the Hens have now maybe woken up some JMU, Nova and W&M fans, especially on this board, who had the South as a four team race.

- Field actually looked better today even with the pre-game rain.

- Disappointing turnout from the students. I know it was raining pre-game, but I came 100 miles... they couldn't make it 1? xsmhx

I already had them in my Top 25, but they've validated my thought. I told a buddy of mine that we could be the 5th best team in the country (which I don't think we are) and miss the playoffs. In fact, we could be the 5th best team in the country and go 6-5 (four losses to UR, UD, 'Nova, and W&M).

You are absolutely right. Its too bad that all 5 can't make the playoffs. Could 4?
