I also saw that since early June, Ortiz is tied for the league lead in HR's...started off very slow but has turned it on in the past few months.

Looks like Ortiz and Ibanez take turns swatting and slumping.

if we assume a different one each night since making it to the majors we can probably put a good estimate right around 5500

And he wouldn't start for any team in the NL pennant race.

Playing the the NL is a demotion anyways. So why would he want to?

Because to play in the NL you have to be a complete ball player, unless you play for the cubs, whom start 2 DH's in their outfield.

My point exactly. I wouldn't take Ortiz over Pujols, Howard, Loney, Helton, Garko or Johnson.

According to a well-placed source I have, Jeter doesn't run around and pretty much dates one woman at a time, which is how he has managed to avoid scandal and becoming tabloid fodder.
The word is that he's done as a bachelor too, and will quietly marry Minka Kelly in the off-season. The New York Post even recently carried this story.

I remember Frank Thomas. '62 Mets, 34 homers and 25 or so were with the bases empty.
I didn't know he hung around long enough to be a DH. xlolx xsmiley_wix

But it's 2009.
yes I agree... now no way in hell... just saying... people write him off because he was a DH his whole time in Boston... but 3 years ago I would take him on a NL team over all the players named except Pujols and Howard.

He's not horrible... but he's no gold glover either.

I ask because I've never seen him play the field, I don't follow the AL. Better or worse than Konerko?

I would take the '06-'07 Ortiz over the '08-'09 Howard, if that's what we're comparing.

Ortiz's career fielding percentage at first base is comparable to Howard's (.989 to 990), though Ortiz's range is much worse. He's not an ideal defensive option at first base, let's say that.

With Jeter it is quantity AND quality, which is the sign of a superior coxsmith.
