ONE: Christian Anthony, the Southwestern Athletic Conference’s pre-season defensive player of the year, is playing up to that title. Nine tackles, second best for Grambling today. Eating up blockers on every play. Then, there was the stripped ball, almost returned for a touchdown. And a number of stops at key moments, including 2.5 tackles for [...]http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/TheDerisoReport/~4/gLxWwRAbgZs

Nick D - what happens at Grambling if this squad starts the season 1-3 (losses to NWST or JSU, plus OKST) or even 0-4? How do you think the fans react? Will the AD feel relieved that the nine-game mandate is coming back, so they can avoid such a tough OOC?

We could have avoided it this year... none of our non-conference games are MANDATORY so why would the AD feel relieved...obviously we wanted to play them.

Not according to your head coach...would rather play 'Podunk U'. xrulesx

"If we're going to play Oklahoma State, then we need to play 'Podunk U' the following week," Broadway said. "...We can't frontload four early tough opponents like we have."

You didn't mention the Coach, you mentioned the AD... of course the coach wants an easy non-conference schedule. Most coaches do!!!

It's all one in the same when you are talking scheduling...I guess playing a weak schedule and Podunk U is better prep for the SWAC slate? What's that say for the SWAC?

It's not the same...Broadway doesn't make the schedule the AD does. If Broadway was making the schedule, he wouldn't "campaign " for the change in the schedule, he'd just do it.

Not that it matters a dann but to put the mirror up, what about Sam Houston's affinty for scheduling D2 or lower schools.... Is that a reflection on the SLC? Then HTF is what Broadway advocating a reflection on the SWAC? You are so obvious and shallow...

Look at your Oct 3rd playing date: Dude you are a joke!!!

Well, apparently there are problems at Grambling. At SHSU, the AD and head coach work together. In fact, we know at SHSU that our head coach turned down a home-and-home with Appalachian State. Stinks, but it occured...

MikeBigg - we only scheduled St. Joseph's because your SWAC member institution Prairie View A&M bailed out on us late in the game. Foo on them, because now they don't have 11 games, let alone 10! I know you are aware of the PV situation since you've smacked Panther88 and the other PVers on their board.

Our AD recently said on our web site (got to love updated web sites, eh?) that we will NO LONGER schedule sub-Div I schools, if we can avoid it (again, thanks PV!). See our 2010 schedule. There are none. What we know for the future years has none as well.

Let me know when it happens...then you will have room to talk about others. I doubt it since the links below clearly show yall have always played D2 or lower.

Mike, I'm so glad you know how to use the Internet. I know how some of you TSPN guys always put the burden on me to prove your points wrong (which they are typically) and my points right (again, typically so). xnonono2x

Perhaps if you clicked some additional links, you'd find this nugget from SHSU. The new policy. And yes, our AD calls out two SWAC schools...but he's in the right. xthumbsupx

I also want to address the schedule situation, because this has been asked of me many times. A lot of people, including myself, were excited a few years ago when we were able to get a home and home series with Prairie View A&M. When we are scheduling games we try to take into account not only what is best for our department and football program, but what is best for our fans as well.

When Hurricane Ike hit last season and the game was cancelled, we agreed to shift everything back one year in the contract and move forward from there. This past spring, they dropped us from the schedule and made other arrangements for the 2009 season. There is a buyout in the contract and we are working to reschedule with them and avoid the buyout, but the buyout will be pursued if the series can not be rescheduled. We had a similar situation with Texas Southern in basketball and we are working with them on a buyout.

We then took this as an opportunity to add another home game, but it was late in the game and we were left scrambling to find a team to play. We are always working to get six home games and we want to play as many FCS teams as possible, with one FBS team. We have decided philosophically we want to play one FBS game and the rest of our opponents from the FCS ranks. A Division II game is a last option. With the playoff field getting expanded next season to 20, we want to do what we can to strengthen our playoff at large position.

And of course, if you too the time to read my posts instead of trying to prove a point (which you failed to do), you'd note that I said - "we will NO LONGER schedule sub-Div I schools". That means for the future, not past tense. Check out our 2010 schedule, I'll let you find the link since you love posting schedule links. It's on GoBearkats.com... xwhistlex

You don't seem to understand... you are in here criticizing folk for doing something you've been doing for years and is still doing! Your AD said "if possible"...but he left room. Doesn't matter...that's his perogative. But you got the nerve to talk about others... HYPOCRIT!

Times have changed.

Sometimes it's best to get with them or get left in the dust. The once proud Grambling has thus far shown their inability to keep up with schools outside of the SWAC at the FCS level and thus, we'll see Podunk U on the slate in the future.

What's their mascot?

You will also notice that we don't select the weaker schools outside the conference to play either... I doubt if your school would have beaten SC State or Grambling. You better focus on that D3 school in Indiana and "sweep around your own door".

Ah, here we go again...

Yep - we just have NDSU and WIU from the Missouri Valley Conference. The same conference in which every school sans Indiana State is probably better than the second best team in the SWAC (if not the best).

The only reason we have Div II St Joseph's is because Prairie View had no chutzpah to call us and drop us. If we had known even a few weeks earlier before the Panthers announced their schedule (after ours), we may have been able to land a Div I opponent.

SHSU doesn't want to go the Broadway route and schedule Podunk Univ. We also do not schedule road games at sub-Div I schools in non-revenue sports, but hey - if Grambling and the SWAC is about that, let'em have it! To each their own...

Go Podunkniks!

That's Broadway's opinion... he has a right. I know that our schedule doesn't play lower division schools nearly as often as Sam Houston. As for PV, I have no control or concern about what they do... They played yall and now you want to whine to me and use it to bash Grambling. They treated yall like little fairies...talk to them and not me.

Personally, I hope Gram NEVAH plays Sam Houston, especially if the rest of their fans are such nitpicky whiners.
