Yeah...take that Greece

Oh boy. Here we go again. We climbed so high before Germany and thought we were all that and worthy of the 6th or so ranking only to crash and burn. There isn't a sane person who would consider the USA the 11th best soccer team in the world.

Yeah, we're not the 11th best team in the world. We should be like 16th. Of the teams ranked behind us, I would say Serbia, Portugal, Czech Republic, Cote d'Ivoire, and Paraguay have superior sides. But we could be like 20th and in a near-tie with the likes of Greece, Australia, Denmark and others--this wouldn't be inaccurate.

The World Football Elo rankings (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_Football_Elo_Ratings), based on the same system used in chess, are far more accurate. We're 18th in that...though the high ranking of Mexico is a bit mystifying with the use of that system.

These rankings mean nothing if we cannot get 3 points tomorrow against T&T. 1 point may not be enough. 3 points should put us in a good position to qualify.

If we beat Honduras and Costa Rica, it isn't going to matter what we do tomorrow. But beating T&T at their place has to be easier than the former two so let's just go ahead and do that, ok? xwhistlex

Portugal is garbage right now. Paraguay we could beat...no issues...same with Ivorty Coast right now.

Only Serbia and the Czech Republic scare me.

Portugal is crap right now but CR isn't? Portugal is "closer" to qualifying than CR is.

I would say Greece, Serbia, Portugal, Czech, Ivory Coast, and Paraguay would scare me if we played tomorrow

Both teams are garbage right now...

All I know is that it might be more fun to see some traditional powers not qualify than to see the US grab a spot over the next few games....

I am really trying to figure out the Mexico ranking on that one as well; that is a little crazy. Did the pollsters black out during the SGE reign?

What the hell has happened to Argentina this year (I know its the coach but still) They have a big game tomorrow. They are in 4th only 2 points out of a 2 way tie for 5th with 3 games to go. They are at 3rd place Paraguay tomorrow while Colombia goes to 7th place Uruguay and Ecuador goes to 9th place Bolivia

When does Maradona get fired. I know it probably won't happen but imagine World Cup without Argentina or worse yet playing the US in the 4th CONCACAF v. 5th South America playoff.

Argentina won't finish 5th and the US won't finish 4th.

I for one would not want to face Argentina with the chance of not going to the WC riding on it. We would get ran out of town

If the US takes care of business tomorrow...and gets a tie vs. CR at home....they will qualify.

Mexico, btw, is the hottest team.

In the world??? or in CONCACAF?

Im not really buying either...

In CONCACAF....

...and how are you not buying it. I watched what they did to the US...and I watched their match the other on-line....they dominated.

They dominated the "C" squad in the Gold Cup and they won one half of play @ Azteca (like they always do).

If you look at their recent play

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mexico_national_football_team#Schedule_and_results

4 losses and 1 draw in 2009.

Honduras are the hottest CONCACAF side only one loss and 1 draw in 2009.

That match (Honduras v Mexico) will be a very interesting one to see today

Some big games today! Go USA!

Uh, outside the Gold Cup, Honduras has lost 2 times, 3 if you include the matches from UNCAF games.

My bad...I forgot about the UNCAF

My bad math skills aside...

I just dont think Mexico is the best team in CONCACAF or the hottest; I guess we will see today

MSUfan2010
September 10th, 2009, 12:43 AM
I dont think they are the best team and I would agree it is hard to pick out a team that is the "hottest" right now considering all three teams have lost big and small this year

1-0 Mexico...Maybe they are hot.

I call them like I see them.

England, is arguably the HOTTEST TEAM. The dismantling of Croatia was brilliant. They look ridiculous with their 8-0 recored and 31 GF in a not so shappy group.
