Customized Corn Hole Sets

Given that no one really tailgates at NU but.....

My 8 year old daughter and I were watching some games yesterday and she saw some fans (I think it was at the Washington-LSU game), and she asked if we could get a "bean bag game" for Northeastern.

I'm about 10,0000% sure you can't buy these things, does anyone know where/who customizes them? I can buy a generic board on line, but if there's someone who does custom, I figure I'd love to be the first guy on the block with an NU cornhole set.

Henfan has a home made one that I saw at his tailgate. The kids love it.

A lot of people I know just buy the wooden cornhole sets and spraypaint and customize the set themselves. You oughta try that as it would be cheaper in the long run.

I'll probably buy a blank one and paint it black and red, and get a couple of helmet stickers from our coach to adorn.

I forgot to add that the kids at Henfan's tailgate reach the age of 50+.
(I think alcohol is at times involved.)

I have been to a few Dick's Sporting Goods in Mass that have a whole tailgate section and that game.

Blukeys, thanks for the reference. That cornhole set was a homemade job. It was made by a friend of a friend, who just so happened to be visiting. Should be easy to make Husky Alum.

Anything you can buy in a store is total junk. Homebuilt is the best way to go. I think you can also buy some unpainted sets online for probably under a $100 and finish them yourself.

I was at a party today and someone had a blank cornhole set, and referenced a website they purchased it from.

For about the same price as the seemingly inferior ones people referenced at Dick's, I can get black and red striped set on line, and I'll get some NU decals to customize.

Where was this site at? Also, I still think you could build your own for very cheap. A couple pieces of wood, some nails, and a little paint are probably less than half of what prebuilt sets cost.

I'm the least handy person in the world, so I'm thinking premade may not be a bad idea.

I found a site that has "slightly used" sets from a tournament - and a bunch of them are in black and red, so that's perfect for me!!!

I'll likely be traveling with mine to UNH and UMass, and URI this year.

I agree...Making them was pretty easy and fun. A little more rewarding to tote them around when I made them.

We played what we called 'bean bags' (go ahead and laugh) as long as I can remember and our sets were always more like 45 degree boards, not flat like today's sets. So that's what I made for the backyard. I can see the advantage of the flatter sets when having to transport them to tailgates though.

We play a similar game called washer board where instead of one hole there are three worth 1,3, and 5 points and instead of bean bags we throw 4 inch heavy steel washers.

At last years Montana game we were interviewed by one of the local tv sports crews working the game, and it made the air. I'll try to find some pics and post them.

That's only a 10-20 degree angle, like all the one's I've seen. Mine are 40-45. Much taller and the hole on the one's we played was in the center. You could run them up like you do in cornhole, but you could also go high and let them slide down.

I have the NDSU set from Baggo and it works well and everything is self storing and the bags matched. You can get a generic one from Baggo and pop the clear top sheet off and get a printed sheet made and place it under the clear sheet. That is all the graphics are is a printed sheet under the clear plastic sheet. My family has probably 5 or 6 different ones with different items from colleges to tractors on them. It may cost a bit more than a homemade one but looks great and works great and travels very well.

Ok, that game is Baggo, different than Cornhole.

We also play Washers here in SoDak, though it is a little different. I've seen the 3 hole washer boards before. We play what I guess is called Missouri style washers. It's a little different than the 3 hole.

Baggo bags are filled with sand. The boards are smaller and plastic. Cornhole boards are 2 ft wide by 4 ft long. Constructed boards normally way about 50 lbs. The bags are filled with a pound of field corn. The boards are 27 ft apart. Throw a one pound bag of corn at one of those baggo sets and see what happens?

1/2 inch sanded pine plywood. You could use maple or oak if you are not painting the board and want a furniture like finish.

It's big or go home up north. Here is some pictures of my beer pong table I built this summer, it is finished now, but there pictures show it earlier this summer when it wasn't complete.

All hand painted, maybe if I can find a camera I'll take some pictures of the finished table. I also made a corn hole set with the other half of the sheet of plywood. The surface is blue and yellow checkerboard like our endzones. I'll try and post some pictures of them also.

You know I spent about 15 minutes this morning contemplating making a UAlbany set for next week's home opener.

Then I realized that an hour into tailgating these things will broke by some former 300lb lineman who just shotgunned 6 beers thinking he could still drink like he did when he was 20.

Not worth my effort.

Danefan- When I take my USD cornhole set tailgating the adults, including college aged kids, are pretty respectful. Nobody wants to be "that guy" who broke the freaking game.

That said, make them anyway just don't take them tailgating. I do agree, if your tailgate area turns into a drunken mess, probably don't want to have to worry about anything.

Andy-this is creative drinking. Bags, washers, beerpong. All tailgate staples. Besides 2.5 hrs? Try more like 4 or 5 hrs minimum.
