Maybe the US Open Cup isn't that big a deal. But I understand that Seattle beat United last night here in DC for the Cup. I didn't hear one word about it yesterday, last week, last month... it was buried three pages down on ESPN.com, it was mentioned in passing on the sports talk this morning. WTF? xconfusedx

The US Open Cup is just not a big deal...

Even the Houston Dynamo, the team that has had the most success of the American clubs in continental championships plays their 'B' squad in such events.

It's such a low priority for most of the MLS, behind the CONCACAF Championships League and even the Superliga. The only major thing involved is the US Open Cup champ gets a bid into the CCL next year.

For a particular play. Not as a lead story.

Never understood why that is. If you want to be the best and prove you're the best, you should compete in these tourneys.

If the teams themselves don't take these tournaments seriously, then why should the fans...

I think the game was on the Fox Soccer Channel last night. I saw it passing through on the TV listings and I was trying to figure out what in the world the US Cup is.

Seattle Sounders is an expansion team this year actually. I watched one of their games on ESPN2 one night during the summer and really had quite a home-field advantage

The problem is, the only way you get into the CCL - the most important of the bunch - is based on your finish in the MLS (or if you win the US Cup). You have a better chance of doing better in the MLS than you do in the US Cup, so where is your priority going to lie?

Can't go with your 'A' team through so many tournaments. The Dynamo did not 3-peat last year because the MLS put them in SuperLiga in addition to US Open Cup and CCL duties.
