no the Sox have thrown in the towel this yr...Both these guys are FAs at the end of the season so why not trade them to a contender while getting minimum in return...They are both class acts...we will never forget Jose's pitching to the '05 World Series, and Thome is the nicest guy in baseball hands down!!!

Which in turn reminds me of the silly game Redskins fans love to use against Eagles fans in the area. Championships from before one was born are rather irrelevant. I actually look forward to this game when Skins fans bring it up. I like to remind them their high school senior child has seen twice as many losing seasons (8) as playoff wins (4). xlolx

For everyone under 40, the Cards have won as many WS Titles as the Phillies have during their lifetimes, and that assumes that those people can even remember the Phillies winning the 1980 WS. Bragging about titles won in the 1920's is fine and all, but they mean very little when even you're Dad wasn't alive back then.

These championship debates always go back and forth.

Here are my two positions:

For the Eagles, I agree with OSBF. Championships are all that matters, no matter how far you have to go back. Therefore, the Eagles are solid with three NFL Championships.

For the Phillies, Flyers and Sixers, I'll take the GannonFan approach. While history is nice, the things that have happened during our lifetimes are more relevant to us and those teams have won five championships in my lifetime, so they too are solid.

I'll choose to have my cake and eat it too.

It all comes down to how many passionate posters on this board live in (or attended college in) the Philadelphia TV market. It may be the most represented market on the board. The Philly market contains schools from the CAA, Patriot, Ivy, MEAC and NEC.

Plus, Jim Thome played in Philly and was quite popular.

It's not like the Phils are suffering by comparison just because Pujols is better than Howard. Funny how having other guys like Utley and Rollins and Ibanez and Victorino and Werth can overcome that deficit at 1B.
