Wins ML leading 16th game, with ERA under 2.5. Too bad wins for a starting pitcher don't matter.

They certainly matter. But most people don't seem to care until the W total hits 20...which still could happen for him with one month left. Good season!

What matters is that he's doing an exceptional job of preventing runs from scoring. If he was doing that just as well as he's done, but had fewer wins because of blown saves or lack of run support, it wouldn't mean he was having any less great of a season.
If the Cardinals' offense hadn't scored a run in the bottom of the sixth yesterday, Wainwright wouldn't have gotten the W. But it wouldn't have meant he pitched any less well than he did. Just like when the Cardinals' bullpen blew a save for Chris Carpenter his last time out, costing him a W, it didn't magically make Carpenter's start any less impressive than it was.

Your 2009 NL Cy Young will be a Cardinal. Book it.

This is exactly what I see with Tim Lincecum of the Giants.

And that's the beauty of sabermetrics. You can twist/alter/modify/adjust the numbers to make them say whatever you want them to say. After all, I was told last week that W's and L's don't really matter for starting pitchers.

I wouldn't say that Wins and Losses don't matter for pitchers. However, given two pitchers with the same ERA, but different win/loss records, I do think that run support needs to be taken into account.

And you still haven't addressed any of the points I made in support of that claim. You're welcome to address the comment I made above, if you like. If the Cardinals hadn't scored that run in the sixth inning and Wainwright didn't get the W, would that have made his pitching performance any less impressive? Did the blown save by the Cards' bullpen in Chris Carpenter's last start, costing him the W, make his performance in that game any less impressive? If Carpenter and Wainwright had fewer wins due to blown saves and/or poor run support, but otherwise were pitching just as well as they have, would that make their seasons any less impressive? Would they be any less CYA-worthy?

I dont know about that since I think Carp will steal votes from Waino and vice versa and that Cain will steal votes from Linny and vice versa.
I would say the NL Cy Young is down to 4 guys but with a month to go, Happ and Haren can get their way back into it as well. But they would need the top 4 to have at least one more bad start each. Who ever can avoid that bad start should win it.

I think the Cy Young should go to either Wainwright or Carpenter, based upon performance to date. However, not sure how the voting goes, but the 'Cardinal vote' could be split, thereby giving the win to Linecum.
