Did anyone see that awesome commercial?

I find it interesting how Fox advertised it on the main channel...ESPN is buying up rights all over Europe...etc...etc.

Still years away from being really important to a good portion of Americans...but I think soccer has finally found a solid foothold in this country.

That said...it will never supplant the Big Three (Football, Basketball, and Baseball)...but it doesnt have to.

I don't think anything will supplant the Big Three, but I can definitely see soccer getting up into the second tier of the American sports culture with hockey, NASCAR, golf, etc.

They'll have the matches on FSN networks, FSC, and others. At least they did for the qualifiers.

I'm a big fan of the commercial ESPN has been running for their EPL and La Liga coverage. Even if Saturday mornings will likely be ManU/Liverpool-dominated with sprinklings of Chelsea and Arsenal, it should still be pretty cool xnodx

It won't catch Football (undisputed #1) or Baseball for historical reasons, but I could see it equalling Basketball at its height (Soccer's height that is, not BBall). It'll be interesting to see how this plays out, with so many different options for Soccer (World Cup, other Internationals, European Leagues, Champions League, MLS) compared to the fairly limited options for other sports. Basketball, for example, really only has College and the NBA. Does the increase in Soccer watching help or hurt the MLS?

It'll be interesting to watch develop, but the increase in Soccer coverage on mainstream American television is definitely a good thing xnodx

Now to work on Hockey......
