Offense shows progess in second SHSU scrimmage

Quarterbacks Bryan Randolph and Blake Joseph each directed a long touchdown drive and wide receiver Jason Madkins put on a receiving show to highlight offensive action for the Bearkats in the second and final major game condition scrimmage of 2009 Sam Houston preseason football camp at Bowers Stadium Wednesday night.

Madkins caught six passes for 135 yards including gains of 37 and 36 yards. Richmond completed eight of 11 passes for 84 yards including an 18 scoring toss to Madkins. Joseph was six of 10 in the air for 115 yards.

The Bearkats look like they are starting to come together.

A week after a strong defensive showing in the first intrasquad scrimmage, the Sam Houston State offense appeared to be on the same page Wednesday night. The Bearkats didn’t find the end zone as many times this time around, but they moved the chains and found room to run the ball.

Running back James Aston broke loose for a 57-yard run on the second play of SHSU’s final scrimmage Wednesday, signaling that the offensive line is finally getting healthy.
