I happened to be there at CitiField to see Matt Cain of the Giants lose control of a fastball (absolutely sure he was not headhunting) one and hit Wright in the head. You never saw 40,000 people so quiet. Cain was absolutely stricken. Wright has a concussion.

Hopefully the Mets have learned from last year's poor management of Ryan Church's concussion, though I doubt it judging by how they handle other injuries. If there are any lingering effects, which it looks like there are as he was diagnosed with post-concussion syndrome, Wright should be out for the year at this point.

David Wright to the DL today. I suspect he will be shut down for the season. He was the last of the core to still be playing.

That just adds on to what had been a disappointing season for the Mets. They had a lot of promise back in spring training...but boy has the injury bug just been so hard on them.

Still alive??? The guy had a helmet on when the pitch hit him.

How about the Dodgers pitcher who got hit in the head with a line drive off a bat??? With NO HELMET ON.

Both were very nasty, and I wish both well. The riccochet off the Dodger pitcher was unreal.

I wish both well also. But he had a helmet on, so at least there was SOME protection. I guess that was mah point.

And some dude on the Rangers got plunked also in the head while batting!

They deserve to win a title after what's happened to them this year.

Tim ReddingThis has been a disastrous year for the Mets.

Added a few more that had DL trips or you. Here's a shorter list....players who have been on the roster all season and not hit the DL.

Johan Santana
Mike Pelfrey
Livan Hernandez
Francisco Rodriguez
Bobby Parnell
Pedro Feliciano
Sean Green
Brian Stokes
Luis Castillo (shocking he's on here)
Daniel Murphy
Fernando Tatis
Jeremy Reed

Amazing year...all of that said, 1) they were due to a few injuries to the core (didn't think it would be this extreme, but they weren't all playing 160 games again) and 2) I think Omar left the team short to begin with, and they would have hit about 85 wins or so but finished out of the playoffs. We'll never know, but that's just my read based the development of certain guys (i.e. Pelfrey, Murphy).
