Jacks coping with injuries on defense

However, he knows he’s not the only defensive coordinator in the country that is already dealing with injuries.

Dowd, the team’s lone pick on the All-Big Sky preseason team, and Rath, a 6-foot-5, 271-pound end who was second on the team in sacks and third in tackles for loss last season, have both been on the sidelines so far and it doesn’t appear that either player’s return is close. Rath suffered an ACL injury during the final week of spring practice and will likely miss most of the season.

Dowd had two surgeries in the offseason on his right shoulder and is still trying to build strength before he’s cleared to practice.

The senior, who last year had 32 tackles, three quarterback hurries and three tackles for loss, said he didn’t know when he would be able to return, but is trying to remain patient.
