Changes abound as Bobcats open fall practice

And he’s doing it all with a new number.
“It’s my high school number,” Thomas said of the reason for switching from No. 86 to No. 4. “I had it since my sophomore year. It was a big change going to 86. I just didn’t tell them soon enough to get that jersey last year, so I made sure I did this year.”
Among the other number swappings were two of Thomas’ receiving mates. Elvis Akpla, who wore No. 1 in the spring, relinquished his number to senior Derek Green, who wore No. 82 as a junior.
Backup corner Zach Coleman (No. 41 to No. 8) and running back C.J. Palmer (No. 38 to No. 20) also made numeral transformations. Defensive end John Laidet, who figures to get plenty of work backing up Brad Smith this year, opted for single digits, choosing No. 9 over his No. 50 from a season ago.
