Certainly not a vote of confidence in one Kevin Kolb.
Quarterbacks Taken First Two Rounds in 2007 Draft:
1. Jamarcus Russell, Raiders
22. Brady Quinn, Browns
36. Kevin Kolb, Eagles
40. John Beck, Dolphins
43. Drew Stanton, Lions
Still a ways to go but that has the potential of a major bust QB draft. Trent Edwards was the next pick at 92 and the only guaranteed starter right now.

Got some good insight watching Ray Didinger and Sal Paolantonio on SportsNight on CSN-Philly.
According to them, the Eagles had been looking at Vick the past several weeks. This was not a move made because of Kolb's knee injury on Monday.
In the past several days, the Eagles front office had contacted the Philadelphia chapter of the Humane Society and the PA SPCA and solicited responses to a potential Vick signing. Apparently both agreed that Vick has paid his dues and the Humane Society will be releasing a statement tomorrow approving of the move and advising against protests. In addition, the Eagles were notified that the national president of the Humane Society will appear in Sunday's 60 Minutes piece on Michael Vick and vouch for Vick having served his time and done good community service and PSAs for them since his release.
They said that Andy Reid has a vision for Vick primarily as a red-zone wildcat and as a WR.

He's glad to have another weapon, I'm sure. It's not like Vick will be challenging for the starting job. McNabb's worst completion rate in a season was better than Vick's best, so it's not like Vick is here for his quarterbacking skills in a west-coast offense. He's strictly here for his dance moves. I like the added dimension he brings. Should be fun to watch come Week 7 or whenever he's eligible.

This makes sense now after hearing Herm Edwards saying that Vick would be signed this week. He was working the Eagles game for ETN tonight so he obviously had the inside scoop on this one. I'm still shocked by this move.

If there was an offense that needed a few "wildcat" offensive plays added to the mix, this is it.
By week 6, if they don't have some of those type of plays ready, they crazy.
Westbrook or McCoy, Mcnabb, and Vick in the same backfield.xeekx

Just copied this from my response over on the GoHens site:
I certainly don't condone what Vick did and I certainly think he deserves every bit of punishment he receives, from his original suspension, to his jail sentence, to his additional suspension, to his losing of millions of dollars, and, probably more importantly, to his future lifetime of derision and hatred from millions of people. But for me, eh, there's people playing in the NFL now who've done worse crimes than Vick has, and if a man like Tony Dungy can get behind this guy and want to see him rehabilitate himself to lead a better life, I'm certainly okay with that.
As for the Eagles, I really don't think this move is anything other than an attempt to be a better football team. Obviously they wouldn't have signed him if the guys on the team didn't want him, so they're all clearly behind him. And I doubt the angle that this is a money making move - I'm not sure there'll even be official Vick jerseys out there, at least in the first year, and obviously there'll be plenty of people who will never want to watch or be associated with the Eagles again because of this, so that normally doesn't make a lot of money. He's a talented player, and if his experience and punishments have made him a changed and more humble man, and if he can contribute, I've got no problem with it.

I'm a huge dog lover (I've owned dogs my entire adult life) and I believe that Michael Vick is gulity of unbelieveable acts of animal cruelty.. however that being said.. I do feel that Vick deserves a chance to revive his NFL career. Vick has served his period of incarceration and in addition he has incurred a huge financial loss. I have worked in the criminal justice field for 40 years.. 20 as police officer and 20 more as a probation officer and seldom have I seen any individual pay a more severe penality.. relative to the nature of their offense. However.. I am shocked that the Philadelphia Eagles were willing to provide that second chance opportunity to Michael Vick. With Andy Reid being a total control freak and the Eagle's desire to avoid controversy.. this move is completely out of character. No doubt the Eagle's organization will take a lot of deserved heat for this signing.. but if Michael Vick is truely remorseful and he follows through with his pledge to become an advocate in the combating of animal cruelty.. he may be able gain some redemption for his horrendous prior behavior.

Lurie's statement was very interesting and compelling. Here's a guy who really is going against his gut instinct, but doing so out of a seeming trust in Dungy and Reid. I get the sense that Goodell may have approached the Eagles about doing this in that they appear to have one of the strongest front offices around that is capable of handling the situation...Just a thought.

A career involves doing something that you're good at as a job. Football is his job. Just like being in the hotel industry is my job, or someone in the financial industry is their job. Michael Vick has every right to make a living just like any other person in this country. If he has the skills for the job, (which he does...) and the experience and training, (which he has...) and those skills and training are in demand. Then why shouldn't he be an employed member of society. These PETA fanatics are insane and their means of protest are laughable at best. The official statement that came out hours after the news broke sounded just like a blanket, fill in said team's name here, standard form. And the dozens....*bad Mick Foley impression*"and dozens"....of protesters outside the complex today remind me of the ones that were around Vick when he had his "$10/hr construction job". xnonono2x
