That was some saga that occurred last night. Not only did S.Vic get doused by some douche. But security ejected the wrong guy first, and with the "no snitching" rule in full effect, and entire row of Cubs fans were removed from the game. All because some guy thought it would be jokes to throw a beer at a player while making a catch. Nice showing on a nationally televised game.

BTW I thought it was pretty funny that the commentators on CSN (the game was blacked out in my area.) basically called out the guy (John Madden style) with the on screen graphics. xlolx

I'm sorry to say that I'm not surprised. Every time I've ever gone to that ***** hole of a ballpark I've had similar experiences. Some of the worst "fans" in all of MLB.

Now.....on the other hand, the South side is a truely enjoyable baseball experience.

I am shocked, I mean, just shocked, that this kind of fan behavior happens outside of the city limits of Philadelphia. We've been told ad infinitum by the national media that only the fans of Philly sports teams sometimes behave in less than noble ways.

What's next - are Cleveland fans going to bombard a football field with beer bottles because of a call that went against them? Are Baltimore fans going to actually boo a Hall of Famer? Are Arizona Diamondback fans going to stop a baseball game by pelting the field with debris after a bad call? I can't believe it will ever come to that!!! xlolx

Yeah, but it's Shane Victorino...they should have upgraded everyone in the section.

I was watching the CSN-Philly broadcast that DSURocks mentioned, also due to ESPN local blackout, and Phils' color man Chris Wheeler dissected the dousing for the next several pitches. ESPN might have cut away per policy, but CSN-Philly was focused on the section with Madden-style pencil graphics from Wheeler. It was definately the guy with the white sweatband on his forearm, not the guy security ejected at first. I saw the whole row get yanked and I was glad to see that the Wrigley security guys weren't playing. You don't want to snitch, you're all outta here. xthumbsupx

I love to rag on Cubs fans, but Wrigley is a great time if you want to get loaded and scope out hot brawds. Unfortunately for the jags sitting in the bleachers at Wrigley, that's pretty much all anyone is there for. Shane's not the first outfielder to have this happen to him. To Cubs fans' credit, I thought they would have made Milton Bradley hang himself by now.

Chicago has plenty of jackass fans on both sides of town, but plenty of good, knowledgable hardcore fans (more so on the South Side ;)) as well.

I have to say that in the late 70's I saw some of the worst most thuggish behavior possible at the Vet. It got so bad that I stopped going to games and certainly was not going to take any kids.
The Management of Philly sports teams have really cleaned the situation up. Going to the Citizen's Bank Park is a real joy.

Yeah, Victorino is pure class. If they wanted to douse someone, they should douse their showboating left fielder on the Cubs.

No, but he does have the sideways hat and the Entourage sunglasses hanging from the neck of his shirt (during a night game):

Again, where the heck does that come from???? What has Victorino ever done to draw such ire??? Play hard? Run everything out? Hustle all over the field? Be humble in interviews? Be a real cheerful and all around pleasant person off the field? Seriously, I've never heard such vitriol against a generally all-around well liked player. xconfusedxxconfusedx

Come to think of it, methinks the only negative responses on here, upon review, are from Mets fans. Apparently the sting of two September collapses and then this year's forgotten baseball season are weighing heavily on the minds of forelorn Met fans. :p

Apparently not....there are four players who I can't stand how they behave: Reyes, KRod, Victorino and Joba. Guys just get under my skin with their antics on the field and always needing to celebrate every little accomplishment...pointing to the sky around the bases on a homerun and standing at home plate clapping at the opposing dugout are what sticks out for me with Vic.

Well, you've got me there - I've watched most every Phillies game for the past, oh, lifetime, and I've never seen anything out of Victorino to put him in the class of Reyes, KRod, or Joba. I can't even remember when he did those things you mention, although I'm pretty sure he may have pointed to the sky on a walk off home run a few years back. Never have seen the clapping at the opposing dugout, although it is quite widely known that the Phillies as a team strongly despise the Mets antics and how they act on and off the field - hard to believe that the Phillies have that strong of an opinion but let someone in their clubhouse act the same way. Again, it would be interesting if a non-Met fan felt the same way about him - the only thing I find on Google about supposed Victorino antics are Mets blogs and Mets fans - heck, some of them even lump most of the Phils in the same category as Victorino - one blogger even said Hamels showboats. Again, you have to wonder how much of that is just plain and simple Phillies envy.

The most I've seen Shane celebrate was here, but, you know, it's to be expected. Might see it again this Fall...

Trust me, think of 30,000 drunk striped-shirt frat boys who want to fight and that's essentially what you have for every Cub home game in Wrigleyville. The only thing that makes it tolerable are the 10,000 equally drunk trixies wearing short skirts who just want to dance on bars.

I went to a Sunday afternoon game at Wrigley in 2004, so I don't think I got the full effect. I was sitting on the third base side in my lawyer friend's firm's seats. I could hear the bleacher catcalls from where I was sitting, but I was surrounded by families and old guys for the most part.

I've seen both the Cubs and the Sox out there, and Sox fans are more into the game (although they may not turn out in the same numbers) and generally better quality people. I saw a Sox-Yanks game two weeks ago, and it was like sitting in the middle of the Superfans! "DIT-KA, DIT-KA, BEARSSS, SUPER BOWL,...":Dxlolx

Apparently Victorino is pressing charges against the fan (who has been identified and turned himself in).

Part of me says, just let it go Shane, but another part of me says, if Victorino had blinked from the beer in his face and the ball hit him in the face and broke an orbital or something he might not be playing tonight, so it's good that this idiot be made an example of.

Well, if he doesn't is there even a case against the guy? Victorino was the aggrieved party and he needs to press the charges so that the guy is punished appropriately. Besides, doesn't require much on Victorino's part to do so, and I'm sure Chicago PD wants him to so I've got no problem with it.

No surprise that the douchebags who go to the games did this. He is your prototypical scrub fan. There to get drunk, act like a d**khead and say "I was there". Only good thing was he turned himself in. Mommy and daddy probably threatened his trust fund if he didn't.
