Panthers hope to live up to lofty expectations
CEDAR FALLS, Iowa - For all the success Northern Iowa has experienced over the past two years, the Panthers are perhaps best remembered for the heartbreaking way those seasons ended.
In 2007, Northern Iowa’s hopes for a perfect record and the school’s first national title were dashed in a home playoff loss to Delaware and it’s star quarterback, Joe Flacco.
Last season, the Panthers stopped Richmond on a 4th-and-1 with 2:13 left and were just a first down away from a berth in the Football Championship Subdivision title game. They didn’t get it, and then watched in horror as Richmond drove 62 yards in nine plays and pulled off a stunning 21-20 win at the UNI-Dome.
