Are they building a new stadium up there or will that still be in the Metrodome?

They just finished a new on campus stadium. It is called TCF Bank Stadium. It looks as if it is very very nice. At least I am pretty sure they are starting this year. I know last year was the Hawkeyes last trip to the Metrodome.

This will be the first year the Gophers are playing in TCF Bank Stadium. I work close to the stadium and it is very nice in person. It's smaller than what you think by looking at the pictures but definitely will be a nice place to watch a game.

I'm looking forward to watching SDSU play against the goofs this November.

It will be great to visit the Twin Cities and experience Big Ten Football at the new stadium and all, but I wish this game could be a few weeks later and bundled with ice hockey games with the Golden Gophers. Now that would be an incredible weekend and would draw more Wildcat fans out there. Regardless, I'm looking forward to making a trip out to Minnesota.

Duh, no kidding! But it sure would add a little meaning to a game that otherwise won't be viewed with much excitement by their fan base. And FWIW I didn't think they packed them in for football, didn't thousands of Bison fans find their way into the Metrodome a couple of years ago? How could that happen if the Goofer fans were packing the stands?

One of the main reasons they built the new stadium was because people didn't want to go to the Metrodome for games. I'd certainly expect to see a far greater attendance with the new stadium.

The new stadium is considerably smaller than the metrodome, maybe 15,000 less seats. I can be expanded, but tickets will be tough for most games the next few years, at least until the novelty wears off. They had 43,000 for the Montana St game last year in the old stadium and over 60,000 for both NDSU games the previous years.

Whether the stadium is filled in 2012 depends on how the Brewster Era develops over the next few years. The "fan base" is extremely fickle after 4 decades of the University failing to promote and support athletics adequately.

I could see skipping a road game to see you guys. Especially if we don't meet in the meantime(which apparently is against NCAA rules it seems. ;))

There will be some buzz around the new stadium for a year or maybe two. Except for rivalry games against Iowa and Wisconsin (and NDSU xlolx), the Metrodump was only half full at the most.

It's a beautiful stadium - should be a big crowd.

Personally, I wouldn't worry about the weather too much - it's rarely that cold in Minneapolis - the average temp in November is in the '40s (compared to Fargo where it's in the 20s). Then again, if 40 sounds cold, then, yep, it could be very uncomfortable.

Ultimately the University of Minnesota Board of Regents banned alcohol sales at the new football stadium as well as the hockey and basketball arenas. Apparently they already sold beer/liquor at the hockey and basketball arenas but decided to ban it.

I thought there was some NCAA rule banning colleges from selling alcohol at college events unless the stadium was off campus and not owned by the University?

The "fan base" is extremely fickle after 4 decades of the University failing to promote and support athletics adequately.

Now we know who Northeastern models its athletic department after - focus on hockey and nothing else.

There's only a ban on the sale of alcohol to the general public at NCAA Championship Events - not at individual member school events - that's up to the schools itself

Note - it's sale of alcohol to the general public. You can serve alcohol in a luxury suite/sky box as long as the purchase/sale transaction is concluded well in advance of the start of the event.

Don't forget to check if there's a women's volleyball game in town at the same time. They're housed in the opposite end of Williams Arena ("sports pavillion") just across the street. Hockey is a block up the road.
