Three North Dakota State Football Players To Be Reinstated After Suspensions

FARGO, N.D. – North Dakota State head football coach Craig Bohl on Tuesday announced the reinstatement of three previously suspended players.

Senior wide receiver and kick returner Shamen Washington, sophomore defensive end Garrett Johnson and redshirt freshman quarterback Jose Mohler will be suspended for the Sept. 3 season opener at Iowa State.

NDSU responds to alcohol problems...


These arrests prompted NDSU officials to unveil — earlier than expected — a plan to curb campus alcohol and drug use. The $50,000-per-year plan includes a new online education course for all incoming freshmen to more dry, late-night campus events.

The plan also includes two new educational programs for athletes, starting this fall.

Bohl likes the proactive approach, strongly disagreeing with those who felt the suspensions for Johnson, Mohler and Washington should have been more severe.

“The easy thing to do, and I know everybody wants blood and meat, is to throw down a bunch of hard suspensions,” Bohl said. “If you talk to any person who is involved with students across campus, and around the nation, they’ll say that formula simply does not work.
