After leading around 150 laps takes his 72nd win. That puts him four wins behind Earnhardt for sixth place all time...

Considering all that has changed, Gordon's milestone is simply amazing. I am sure he'll pass Dale up early into next season if he can't pull it off this year. Gordon is a good guy on top of that and someone NASCAR can market their sport around.

The way things are going right now I wouldn't be surprised if he wins at least 3-4 more races to do it this yr...

Is that restrictor car racing or what? Everyone battling it out so closely and such a mess we had there. No surprise in my eyes...

Although I don't care for Gordo, he clearly had the best car and deserved to win

the best car and deserved to win
Amazing how many times that doesn't = a win, isn't it?... somebody else who just hangs around all day and catches a break. Although this year, the best car has won more often than not.

It just seems obvious to me that Gordon will break all of the records. Later this year when he passes Earnhardt's win total, it will be big news for most people. But when he breaks DW's, Allison's, and Petty's records is when Gordon will truly be setting the standard for the future of the sport.

I have never been a big Gordon fan, but mak eno mistake about it...he is the pure meaning of the word elite. He is NASCAR today! He will be Earnhardt's record, no doubt. Unless of course he has the same fate that Dale did. He is so much like Earnhardt it's crazy...minus the :rattling of people's cages". He is THE man to beat these days. In this day of NASCAR competition...where everything is as equal as possible...it is hard to stand out from the crowd but Jeff still manages. I myself am a Jr. fan. which drives me nuts that he was running up front and of course....it seems lately if theres an accident...Jimmy Johnson is somewhere near it.......he took out what was left of the field....as much as I like the excitement of the accidents.....NASCAR has to do something to stop these cars from running so damn tight together...case and point....DO AWAY WITH THE RESTRICTOR PLATES!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dang, just saw this thread.
What amazed me about his latest win at 'Dega, on a plate track none the less, was the fact that he did not need any help from a teamate. His car was that fast, in clean and in dirty air. Credit goes to his engine builders. No drafting required! He passed high, he passed low, he passed when the green flag said..........GO!!!!
