"You get humbled over the years, but since I've been working in the league I don't think the best team has won the Super Bowl any year," Banner said. "You get a ball bouncing the wrong way, a bad call from the ref, a windy day when you plan to throw a lot. You lose once. Even if you get to the playoffs, and it's a year where most people would say you did really good, you don't feel satisfied. There are just too many things out of your control."

He began to work in the NFL in 1994.. Lets take a look starting in 1995.

1995: San Francisco *
1996: Dallas Cowboys
1997: Green Bay Packers *
1998: Denver Broncos *
1999: Denver Broncos *
2000: St. Louis Rams *
2001: Baltimore Ravens *
2002: New England Patriots
2003: Tampa Bay Buccaneers *
2004: New England Patriots *
2005: New England Patriots *
2006: Pittsburgh Steelers
2007: Indianapolis Colts
2008: New York Giants
2009: Pittsburgh Steelers

* represents years I believe the best team won. Not just from the Super Bowl match up but as a whole league. And I may come off biased here, New York did beat New England and were the best team that day, but an argument can be made the Patriots were the best team that season.

Certainly cases can be made for every team here except the 2001/02 Patriots being the best team overall the year they won. Simply put Joe Banner is an idiot if he truly believes what he said.

Joe Banner is an idiot.

You didn't need to waste all that research time at 1:30 am, Travis. You could have asked any Eagles fan here and we would have confirmed that Banner is indeed an idiot.

Who do you think was better than the Steelers last year? They played a brutal schedule, went 12-4, had three wins over the Ravens.

I think they and Tennessee were pretty close... I couldn't justify saying either was the best team so I didn't say Pittsburgh was the best. As I said though... with the exception of the 2001/02 Patriots. Every team on this list has an argument for being the best team overall the season they won the Super Bowl.

And the Titans did beat the Steelers in week 16 by 17 points.

Yea that's fair....I agree with some of your other years, I would take the Colts of 05-06, Chargers of 06-07 and Pats of 07-08. Can't recall a team better than the 95-96 Cowboys but my memory isn't as clear on that one.

Ya with the Cowboys, I just didnt remember enough back that far. I looked back at the standings and Kansas City was 13-3. They lost in the divisional round, but I don't recall how good they were.

Dallas had a better offense, but Kansas City had a better defense. Dallas was probably the better team, but I just couldn't decide that based on the info I had available to me in a quick search.
