OK, if any non Sox fans want to vote in the poll go ahead, I am specifically calling out Sox fans though because they would likely know more about the players named.
Gordon Edes is reporting that he heard Boston could offer Clay Buchholz, Michael Bowden, Daniel Bard, Junichi Tazawa, Stolmy Pimentel and Casey Kelly to Toronto for Roy Halladay.
Toronto has told the Yankees and Sox they will have to pay a premium for them to trade Halladay within the division, its not clear if the names listed above includes such a premium.
The question is... Would Boston be overpaying with that list of names for possibly as little as two months from Halladay? (Because he signed a long term contract prior to 2006 he can demand a trade after the season if he is traded. If he demands such a trade and isn't traded by next March he becomes a free agent)

While they would be giving up many prospects, the Sox would acquire Halladay, one of the best pitchers in baseball. The Yankees are not going to allow Boston to walk away with the division, but acquiring Halladay would make the job easier. I think they should make this trade, then try to sign him to a long term deal.
Although, Travis, I really want to vote for one of the dotted lines... xthumbsupx

You do realize the Red Sox are chasing the Yankees, right?

Double check the article. What I read is that the Red Sox would trade Buchholz, Bard and one of the other mentioned players. In that case, I'd go for it. If it was the entire contingent, I'd probably take my chances with the current team.

The six Red Sox mentioned seem to be a large hodgepodge of mediocre players, whereas the three players the Jays asked from the Phillies are two blue-chip prospects and a 7-1 rookie pitcher. I'm sure the Jays will really be playing up the "potential" trade with Boston to get the Phils to give up both Happ and Drabek. That's what the Jays really want. They need a potential stud starting pitcher in return for Halladay, and the Red Sox offer doesn't fit the bill. Nobody really has the prospects to offer that the Phils do.

Yes I do realize that, I didn't word my comment very well. All I meant was the acquiring Halladay would make it easier for Boston to catch/win the division over the Yankees.

Buchholz, Tazawa and Kelly all project as #1 pitchers, Kelly also projects as a very good SS if he goes that route. Bard is nasty and will be a dominant closer. Theres nothing mediocre about that group of Red Sox players.
They are currently 1,4,5,8 in the Red Sox system with Bard and Buchholz already listed as post prospects so no longer ranked in the system.

If the Jays are demanding 4 top players from Philly then I have a hard time believing they would settle on Buchholz, Bard and one other from Boston.
Here is the paragraph from the article if others want to weight in on it.
The one team the Phillies fear could trump their offer, according to a team source Monday, is Boston. The Red Sox potentially could offer a package featuring pitchers Clay Buchholz (http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/8090/;_ylt=AuNwsSz1Y1yw25vb2KP2WR4b2Z14)(notes) (http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/8090/news;_ylt=AmncNsqPqGNJ4AemL6MNkF0b2Z14) and reliever Daniel Bard (http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/8470/;_ylt=ArniZ0T0ESSdfN2Nx3lb2Dwb2Z14)(notes) (http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/8470/news;_ylt=ArAZNNAdTywiwH7v_V1rTGgb2Z14) from the big-league roster, and a menu of attractive prospects, including pitchers Michael Bowden (http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/8341/;_ylt=AlS5CjkK4fzWAo0gITRO4lwb2Z14)(notes) (http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/8341/news;_ylt=Ak_pRQwyKIVdPy_gL3D_Ahkb2Z14), Junichi Tazawa (http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/8392/;_ylt=AtM77qzmL7ZOxamZKd2J7psb2Z14)(notes) (http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/8392/news;_ylt=Ao8X5JeY5ntejXyPiiXbf9Eb2Z14) on the Triple-A level and 19-year-olds Casey Kelly and Stolmy Pimentel. The Blue Jays have told the Red Sox and the Yankees they would have to pay a premium – an extra player – for Toronto to trade Halladay within the division.
Clearly Boston has to give more then the 4 players then they want from Philly as the Jays have told the Sox it will cost them a premium to trade within the division.

the Red Sox apparently were in discussions for Lee and Martinez from Cleveland but refuse to include Buchholz... Probably pretty much kills any chance of a Halladay deal, doubt Boston would include him in a Halladay deal but not one for Lee and Martinez.
Also some reports suggest now Boston has turned its focus to Adrian Gonzalez from San Diego.
This would make things interesting if Boston landed him as Boston would have a hard time justifying not starting him everyday, likely would mean some sort of move with Lowell possibly a DL move?
