D.C. United back in talks with District officials

After a lot of frustration and walking out it looks like DC United and the District of Columbia may actually "get it done". This comes courtesy of the D.C. Business Journal:

If there’s one thing Kevin Payne has learned, it’s not to let a loss or two get him down.

The president and CEO of D.C. United recently re-engaged D.C. officials in discussing an idea that seemed completely dead months ago: a new soccer stadium at Poplar Point

soccer only stadiums can only be a good thing... good luck to DC United in their quest.

I hope the Revs can get something together like this north of Boston...

wont happen. Kraft is going to kepe everything on his foxborough lot... it is possible in the future he adds a soccer only stadium at Patriot Place, but any stand alone Revs stadium wont be anywhere but there.

UNHWILDCATS-- -completely wrong.

As NUHF can attest, and I can confirm from other sources...Kraft desperately wants to move the team to a site in Roxbury. NUHF has seen the plans...they even stated they would name the place Menino Stadium. It would be shared with high schools and Northeastern Football. In fact, I have had personal discussions with him (he is part of a Sports Forum we hold at Suffolk Law and NESL each year, sites rotating) regardign the subject. Alternate sites are Sommerville...and the last possible site would be near Foxborough.

Financially and fan wise (read: immigrants) the Boston area works best for him.

I have personally seen plans (though it is a crazy plan) that if City Hall were moved to the Fan Pier area, Government Center could be replaced by a 25,000 seat stadium. Footprint wise...it is doable. There is also at least 8 t-stops (Park St, Downtown Crossing, State, Aquarium, Haymarket, N. Station, MGH and Government Center) near the site...plus the Haymarket Bus Depot.

I think it would cost WAY too much...but that option would be super cool.

I stand corrected. I just googled about a bit on this and interestingly enough, theres rumors that he might be dangling the idea of selling the team to the Montreal USL owner Joey Saputo in hopes of pushing officials to approve the stadium.
