The Red Sox have acquired lefthanded-hitting first baseman Adam LaRoche (http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/l/larocad01.shtml) from the Pittsburgh Pirates for a pair of prospects.

The trade was first reported by the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette's Dejan Kovacevic. The Globe's Amalie Benjamin has confirmed that the Sox will send Portland shortstop Argenis Diaz (http://www.soxprospects.com/players/diaz-argenis.htm) and Greenville righthander Hunter Strickland (http://www.soxprospects.com/players/strickland-hunter.htm) to the Pirates in return for LaRoche.

Diaz, a smooth-fielding shortstop, was batting .253 for the Double A Sea Dogs. Strickland, 20, was an 18th-round pick in the 2007 draft.

To make room on the roster the Sox will likely place Mark Kotsay on the DL.

Nice deal, LaRoche usually rakes in the second half.

...and is a very solid defensive player. The only rub on him is that he is ADD and sometimes goes braindead on the field, but all in all this is a good trade for both teams.

Glad the Pirates traded him. Now my friend can go from LF to 1B there. He's been raking it since they called him up!
