No, no, no, we're not going back to the "olden days." Earlier this week, one of the four 80-foot tall light poles collapsed. As a safety precaution, they're removing the remaining poles.

The long rumored stadium renovation may play a role in what MSU decides to do to replace the poles. Meaning, if new lights were going to be installed as part of the renovations, they would probably install temporary lighting this season.

“The inspection of the other three poles showed signs of corrosion at the base consistent with what we found at the base of the pole that fell,” said Ken McClure, vice president for administrative and information services. “We don’t believe there is any imminent danger of the other three poles failing, but we cannot take any chances.”

The poles should be removed within a week at an estimated cost of $25,000. In the meantime, the campus area around the poles has been secured to prevent any pedestrian or vehicular traffic.

Regarding future plans, McClure said, “We will determine our best course of action after evaluating a number of alternatives.”

Light Poles at Plaster Sports Complex to be Removed

SPRINGFIELD – As a safety precaution, the three remaining in-ground light poles at Missouri State University’s Plaster Sports Complex will be removed as soon as possible.

On Tuesday (July 14), the pole at the northwest corner of the facility fell to the ground. Fortunately, no one was injured. The other in-ground poles at the northeast, southeast, and southwest corners were inspected Wednesday by outside engineering consultants, which led to the decision to remove them.

1 of 4 light poles collapsed this week at plaster sports complex, nobody was hurt. The other 3 are being removed out of saftey for having similar corrosion.

I'm glad that did not happen during or close to football season. day games suck. Director of Facilities is looking through the excuse book about now as to why material thickness checks were not ever performed. usually after 20% of material loss they need replacing. It looks like they were steel but the good thing is now they get to upgrade. :) I'm grateful nobody was around when it happened.

Probably just rent from Musco, they are just up the road in Iowa. We only have two night games this year for football but soccer and field hockey use it as well.
