State auditor questions Grambling’s athletic accounting

In all, Theriot said, 70 of 103 (or 68 percent) of the university’s revenue-producing events — including football, basketball, and baseball games — were not supported by a signed contract between the university and the competing school.

How does this happen? Is this due to missing paperwork or the fact that this paperwork was never completed?

Does this explain the officiating issue last year with Talledega? Why would a school even dare come to Grambling and expect to be paid out when there is no contract on the table? I thought all Division I schools sign off on contracts for the major team sports (i.e. VB, hoops, baseball, softball, soccer, etc).

Even in conference contests outside of the SWAC apparently, there are typically papers exchanged between schools - especially as it relates to requests for time, date, etc changes. These typically need to be signed off by the league office and representatives from both schools.

The state auditors are crazy. I've seen them firsthand, but it seems a lot of simple things that are commonplace at this level and even below it, have not been properly taken care of.
