Sources tell TSN the NHL and the NHLPA are investigating what might have been an enormous mistake by the Chicago Blackhawks.

Chicago tendered qualifying offers to several key players this week, including Kris Versteeg, Cam Barker, Ben Eager, Colin Fraser, Aaron Johnson and Troy Brouwer, however the investigation underway is to determine whether the qualifying offers were filed correctly.

If not, there is the remote possibility the qualifying offers could be ruled invalid and the players listed above, conceivably, could be deemed unrestricted free agents because of the blunder.

There are few details, but one source says the players involved didn't receive the necessary notification of the offers.

The National Hockey League is in the process of trying to determine whether the situation was remedied in time.

Chicago general manager Dale Tallon says the qualifying offers were mailed to the players in time, on June 29th, but says because of the July 1 holiday, some of the players didn't receive them in time.

Additional sources say qualifying offers are not supposed to be mailed.

Overnight delivery via courier and direct fax to the players agent is preferred and certified or registered mail is acceptable only if the other means are unavailable.

Tallon says fax copies of the offers were sent to the league, so he doesn't anticipate any significant fall out.

However, sources say some of the qualifying offers were not faxed to the agents.

And here I was thinking this thread was about giving a guy right around 30 a twelve year contract.

And here I was thinking this thread was about giving a guy right around 30 a twelve year contract.

That is easy...the first 7 years is worth 54 mil nd the last 5 years is worth 7 mil...so the average of the deal is 5.2 mil when there will be a probable buy out or retirement after 7 years...that way there will not be much be muchmoney on the table and Tallon has saved 3 mil off the cap per yr

It appears the Chicago Blackhawks' restricted free agents aren't worried about their contract status, a source close to the situation told TFP.
On Friday night, TSN reported that the NHL and the NHLPA are investigating whether the Blackhawks properly filed qualifying offers to their RFAs.

According to the report, Chicago RFA players failed to receive the necessary notification of the offers.

Kris Versteeg, Cam Barker, Ben Eager, Colin Fraser, Aaron Johnson and Troy Brouwer are among the players mentioned.

However, TFP has learned that the paperwork was properly filed with both the NHL and the Player's Association, even if the player's agents did not immediate receive the qualifying offers.

According to one source, the Blackhawks' restricted free agents were contacted about the situation and knew their qualifying offers were submitted to the league and the NHLPA, and do not anticipate any potential issues concerning their status with the team.

"In fact, they're excited about [getting a new deal done and] hitting the ice next season," the source said.

I read the same thing earlier today ISU, but was relieved when I heard that it was an error with the mailing and when they received the mail.
