The Cleveland Indians traded infielder Mark DeRosa to the St. Louis Cardinals on Saturday night for reliever Chris Perez and a player to be named later.

DeRosa, who the Indians acquired from the Chicago Cubs in a trade last offseason, was hitting .270 with 13 homers and 50 RBIs.

DeRosa goes from the Indians, who have the worst record in the American League, to the Cardinals, who are tied with Milwaukee for first place in the National League Central.

Meanwhile DeRo's former team, the Braves, who are in dire need of a RH bat, couldn't part ways with a middle of the road middle releiver (of which they have several) and let him go to St. Louis... SMFH.

the Braves can overpay for Jermaine Dye when Kenny Williams pulls the plug on the White Sox

Even if he doesn't help, it pi$$ed off Cub fans, and that by default makes it a good deal.

Cards media is saying they gave up too much, national media is saying they got him for nothing. Chris Perez has a +++ arm, throws 95+ with a nice slider and has been working on a straight change. He'll get the chance to be the 9th inning guy in Cleveland. The "player to be named later" is what concerns me. There are some rumors that it will be Troy Glaus. That would be too much to pay for Derosa, IMO. Sorry to see Perez go, guys with an arm like that aren't just out there on every streetcorner.

I read the Cards wouldnt deal perez at the beginnin gof the year for anybody and now thety gave up Perez and something pretty good, so it sounds like they went a tad overboard but probably had too to keep him away from the Cubs...
