I-AA Semifinal Parity Since 2002

The last four years, no team has gone to the I-AA semifinals more than once. The SoCon and A10 each have four semifinalists with the SLC right behind with three. No conference has had a team every year either.

Went to I-AA.org...

Wanted to see where these conferences that everyone keeps saying are better than the next standed and show how the SLC seems to always have a team in the mix despite the crap our conference sometimes gets...

One thing that could be a difference is that the SLC in the past only had 6 teams that beat up on each other all season, which prevents us from getting the same number of playoff births.

Another arguement could be that those other confrences with more teams have statistically more oportunities to place a team in the tourney.

I remember 1995 when McNeese lost to Marshall in the semi's and SFA lost (BAD) to Montana in the semi's.

We came as close to meeting each other in the finals as any conferences have in my memory.

That's exactly what I was thinking...take it one more year, and suddenly the point is a little lost...

Yes, but I don't think looking at any period of I-AA football, that there has ever been this sort of parity in the I-AA semifinals, especially considering GA Southern, Youngstown St, Marshall and Furman used to all be in the mix almost each year...

:confused: It's not arbitrary at all. It's the timeframe in which there have been no duplicate semifinalists. 4 consecutive years without a repeat appearance. If you say somebody has a 20 game winning streak, do you question why they didn't go back 21 games?

Given that we went from 1985 through 2000 with at least one of Georgia Southern, Marshall or Youngstown State in EVERY championship game, it is definitely a change - and probably a good one at that, although I enjoyed YSU in the hunt every year. xlolx
