6/24/70:
Cincinnati sluggers Johnny Bench and Lee May smash back-to-back homers off Dominican Dandy Juan Marichal in the eighth inning, giving the Reds a 5-4 win over the San Francisco Giants and providing a fitting sendoff to Crosley Field, hosting its final big-league game. Hamstrung by a low seating capacity and devoid of any modern amenities, Crosley was nonetheless much loved by baseball purists who will not be wholly enamored with the move to the concrete cookie-cutter, multipurpose Riverfront Stadium with Astroturf (not grass), no view of downtown and no measurable soul.
