This one is not over, just yet...perhaps if this one comes up against China, they IGF will be hard-pressed to spring into action against the allegations from the most recent saga...

LAUSANNE, Switzerland -- Two Chinese gymnasts suspected of being underage at the 2000 Olympics aren't off the hook yet.

The International Gymnastics Federation announced Tuesday it has turned the investigation into Dong Fangxiao and Yang Yun's eligibility over to its disciplinary commission. The commission, established Friday, will give its decision to the FIG's executive committee by the end of September, at the latest.

If the disciplinary commission decides Dong and Yang were underage in Sydney, it will propose sanctions. China won the bronze medal in 2000, and Yang was a bronze medalist on uneven bars.

Oh great. Just when the world has almost forgotten about the last olympics they have to bring China right back to the forefront.

I am embarrassed as an American because of the sore loserism/death threats/legal actions etc. that came from our country about the 2008 Summer Olympics. xtwocentsx

While some of the actions were not necessary by individuals in wake of the 2008 Summer Olympics, I do not think it is any question that there is potential tampering with Chinese athletes documentation.

Exactly how many Americans made death threats against the Chinese women's gymnastics team? Exactly what kind of legal actions were initiated and by whom? Aren't legal actions the appropriate response to actions that are possibly illegal? Why shouldn't a loser be sore when the loss occurred as a result of cheating?

There is nothing wrong, no tampering, no proof of any cheating, nothing illegal about those girl's winning the Olympic gold medal over our precious American team. SORE LOSERS. As for the death threats and legal actions (hint, TT mentioned one action in this very thread), they are not secrets, look them up. We have discussed this enough on AGS.

It's not the United States and their "precious" team doing any of this, it's the International Gymnastics Federation. The only people or country that should be embarrassed about this situation that has occurred in two straight summer olympics is China.

I did not think it happened in 2004 in Athens or did it...?

Either way, the IGF needs to look seriously into the evidence and can not just sweep issues under the table. There are too many people impacted on a worldwide level.

The federation needs to make sure that countries do not believe they can get away with anything.

I read the article. I know it isn't about the last Olympic games. But in the wake of all that went on during and after the recent Olympic games with China and all, this just brings it all to the front burner again. xreadx

It is all kinda silly - along the lines of the "amateur" athletes from the Iron Curtain countries back during the Cold War and "clean" athletes like Bulgarian power lifters or Lance Armstrong (and virtually all other competitive Tour de France riders - http://www.theonion.com/content/news/non_doping_cyclists_finish_tour_de) - everyone can tell that these girls are underage, but they got away with it and we move on. Hopefully they're preregistering all future competitors if a minimum age is so vitally important.

Betcha' ain't a one of those girls got any hair on her cooter or has a regular period. Shoot, my 8 YO grand daughter looks older than every one of 'em.

There ought to be a rule, no cooter hair and no period= too young.
