The world-famous Harlem Globetrotters selected five players to join the team for fall training camp, it was announced Monday afternoon. Included among the selections was former American University standout Derrick Mercer. Other newcomers selected to the team were Oklahoma's Taylor Griffin, New Mexico's Tony Danridge, Charlotte's Charlie Coley III and current United States soccer goalkeeper Tim Howard, a former high school basketball standout in New Jersey.

I'm floored. This can't be good for the USMNT, can it? xconfusedx

I don't know if it hurts them that much. There are alot of other positions that need help. The back-up keeper did well at times.

Better question is, who will have more wins Taylor Griffin or his brother...My money is on Taylor.

Ummm...it is a "draft" folks. he is not leaving the EPL to play for a glorified pick-up team whose games are fixed.

Come on, you have to admit it's pretty puzzling, though. I mean, really, is he going to have to take time off from the EPL for a *tryout* in the fall? (Imagine that conversation - just for a minute - with his EPL coach and Bob Bradley.) And why him in particular? Certainly there are a slew of other capable high school and college-aged athletes could do the job. Something is fishy here.

And why would they offer him a "tryout" if he wasn't basically going to join the team? It's not like he's looking for money or job security.

The Trotters have a deal for England this year. It is a total marketing ploy!

Ah, thanks! Now it makes total sense. xthumbsupx

Thanks for doing the gumshoe work. I was wondering why no other media organization on the planet (really) picked this up!
