6/12/28:
Lou Gehrig belts two homers and two triples, drives in five runs and scores five runs to lead the Yankees to a 15-7 rout of the Chicago White Sox at Comiskey Park. Playing in the shadow of Babe Ruth for most of his career, Gehrig’s lifetime statistics are nothing short of extraordinary. From 1926 to ‘38, he had at least 100 RBIs and 100 runs scored each season. At various times, he led the American League in batting average, slugging percentage, hits, doubles, triples, home runs, RBIs, runs scored and walks. And he never missed a game for 13 seasons until an incurable muscular disease ended his career and later took his life at the age of 37.
