shaping up to be a good game, I don't think Nealy will have as much success running this week due to the speed on Poly's defense

1. Why is Poly runnig an option on 3rd and 9
2. Why is Brennan keeping it

I dont understand the play calling so far. Well, actually when Poly played UC Davis at Davis, it seemed they didnt have much confidence in Brennan throwing it over the middle...hence all the deep heaves.

I disagree. Offensive games are fun, but defensive games have just as much suspense if they're close at the end.

JohnStOnge
December 3rd, 2005, 05:27 PM
Texas State's squandered a lot of opportunities. Should have a 2 or 3 TD lead right now...even if Cal Poly would've scored. We'll see if failure to take advantage of their domination of the first half comes back to bite them.

This is more the "Nicholls State/Sam Houston State" Nealy than the "Georgia Southern/Texas A&M" Nealy. If I'm a Georgia Southern fan I'm frosted that he didn't pick LAST week for one of his "off" games. If his accuracy had been what it is this week last week we'd probably be watching Georgia Southern vs. Cal Poly right now.

Well, Texas State got away with letting an opponent it was physically dominating hang around. A lot of things but, though I know Nealy's probably been coached to go down and not get hurt that was pretty foolish to go down just short of the first down when they were leading 14-0 and deep in Cal Poly territory. He had the first down easily.

Also, McNeese's field goal kicker should've made All Conference. That's one place where Texas State isn't strong. How does a guy who's now 10 of 18 on field goals get all conference over a guy who was 16 of 19 with a 51 yarder?

I'm willing to bet it is because of Tx State's success this year.

One thing I found interesting due to Cal Poly's reputation on defense is that Texas State backs had a lot more success running the ball against Cal Poly than they did against Georgia Southern. If Cal Poly had been able to shut down the inside running game like Georgia Southern did, Texas State would've been in real jeapordy because Nealy was not at his best throwing the football today.

blackfordpu
December 3rd, 2005, 07:19 PM
Nealy was not impressive but the running game was. Whether it was Nealy, Jolly or someone else running they seemed to gain yardage almost every carry.

Southwest Texas State won this game with their line of scrimmage play, pure and simple. Nealy is ellusive, but his passing sure is erratic. He drops his elbow all the time. Seems like he could be a lot better with some coaching. Cal Poly is not a come from behind team. Hat's off to them though for not breaking like Georgia Southern did. This was a much better football game.

Watch out with calling them Southwest Texas State, they don't like that.

He seems to have the same form throwing the ball as Young from Texas. They both throw a little side arm.

I knew it happened because of box scores but this is the first time I've seen Nealy having problems with his accuracy like that. He hit like 77 percent of his passes against Texas A&M and 71 percent against Georgia Southern.

I think they were aiming at the Cal Poly wide receiver. (An obscure SHSU-Griz reference. :D )

Southeastern Louisiana pretty much shut Nealy down other than a couple of long passes. We held him to 13 yards rushing on 10 attempts and I believe he was 13-30 passing for a little over 200 yards. Again he had a couple of big completions mixed in their but overall didn't do a lot to hurt us. We killed ourselves with personal foul penalties in that game which kept several of their drives alive.
