Reserve linebacker John Jones is transferring from Florida to Tennessee State.

Jones played in 11 games last season, mostly on special teams, and made 18 tackles. Coach Urban Meyer mentioned last week at the SEC meetings that he expected Jones to transfer, with the entire starting defense still intact.

Jones’ connection to former TSU star Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie was influential in the decision. Rodgers-Cromartie and Jones played at rival high schools in Sarasota, Florida.

“Dominique’s dad and my dad grew up together and then me and Dominque played against each other in high school,” Jones said. “I looked at the success he had at TSU and I felt like I could do the same thing there.”

Jones will be eligibile to play immediately for TSU and has two years left of eligibility.
