5/31/37:
New York Giants screwballer Carl Hubbell’s two-season winning streak of 24 straight victories is finally broken at the Polo Grounds. In the opener of a Memorial Day weekend twin bill, Brooklyn knocks King Carl out of the box in the fourth inning and rolls to a 10-3 victory. The peerless lefty finished last season with 16 straight wins and added 8 more this year before the Giants’ arch rivals end his skein. His great feat remains an MLB record.
