View Full Version : FCS Schools in NCAA Football 10 for the Next Gen systems...kinda
phoenixphanatic21

You can now use the team builder feature to create everything about FCS schools. They have included logos from FCS schools (in the video below, you can actually see a few of them at the :34 mark) and will allow you to upload your roster online. So, theoretically, someone could create a school and everyone could then download said school and create their own FCS league in the game. I'm just glad they finally put FCS schools on the Xbox and PS3...sorta. It's a start, right?

FYI for those building a team. You cannot change your stadium once you start. I suggest starting with a larger stadium. That way your program and fanbase can grow together. I am going to build Montana with at least 40k. I also plan to build my players based on those similar to programs in the WAC, MWC, and mid level BCS teams.
These games have always underrated the majority of FCS players.

What's the problem? It's free. As an added side note, there are a TON of crappy App. St.'s made already. So many are horrendously wrong. I wish we could rate these so people don't have to sift through crap to find the best created FCS teams.

Unless you preorder from Gamestop, then you can have 25. Gamestop claims to be the exclusive provider of that deal, anyway (I haven't looked into whether anyone else offers something similar)…

I am working the GRIZ, I am real proud of my throwbacks. I actually like my uniforms better than the current uniforms. As for roster, I am working on names for the most part, and the skill sets will be last thing I tweak. I have gone through QBs, RB's, WR's, and TEs, so far. I expect to have this done by the weekend. I will then work on other FCS teams, and a few made up teams too. I just wish I could tweak more things, and am disappointed Monte is not in the game.

It is hard to do the Griz and have the throwbacks available as well due to the pants and only having two uni's available. My griz teams will only have orange and maroon pants available.

I am not a fan of the 2 pants limit, but hte 4 jerseys. Does not make a lot of sense. I also do not like how the socks and shoes only have one option for all the uniforms.

I have to say this is a pretty cool feature. I just plan one making all of the SoCon teams and adding them to a conference by itself so I can have conference games in dynasty mode (hoping this is possible).
I made a team too, but it is very incomplete roster wise. I spent about 45 min doing names, and then I realized that you build your depth chart based on which players you are naming and not on the fly, so I have to start over with that.
The only thing with the jerseys that I can not replicate is the "Appalachian State" portion of the chest logo. It's not an "official" logo by any means, and I tried to create something clip art wise, but I haven't had any luck yet. I also elected to put the block A instead of the Yosef for the collar logo. I think they should do that in real life too...
What stadium is everyone else planning to use? I picked UVA's, as it looks to be set in a similar mountain setting, it has a grass hill, and is pretty nice.
What I hope is that they see a ton of FCS teams made online and look to add the teams back fully eventually.

That's what I did too. It is possible to get our current uni's 99% correct. The throwbacks are harder because they don't have the right sleeve striping available, and you can't have the gold pants unless you remove the black or white pants. Still I made our current unis and it's crazy how many people have butchered them beyond recognition on their attempts.

I created 2015 GSU, ASU, Griz, and Furman.
Giff Smith is the HC of the 2015 GSU team and we run the flexbone The roster is cupcake to give me more of a challenge because I usually play something like 5-10 dynasty seasons. GSU is in SMU's stadium. 1*
2015 Furman uses Ball States Stadium, head coach is ingle martin, and roster is average joes 2*
2015 App State are "average joe's" and jerry more is still coach uses Southern Miss stadium. 3*
the 2015 griz are even stronger with their roster, they have reainted their current coach and use Boston college's stadium. 3*
Griz replace idaho in the WAC
GSU replaces ULL
ASU replaces ULM
Furman replaces LA Tech
Swap furman for North Texas.
Swap North Texas for UTEP
UTEP to the WAC
UNT to C-USA
GSU, Furman, ASU in the SunBelt and that will make us all rivals!

I have the teams set up, I just haven't made them public yet. I would still like to get a few more authentic things set up before I did. The logo on the Citadel helmet is wrong, but I haven't been able to find that. Likewise the Western logo is from like three years ago. Most teams have a chest logo that says "Appalachian State" or "Wofford" in small type that I would like to be able to find. The difficult thing is when you go to copy an paste these from the web and save them, there is a box around them of the background color that really takes away from the reality of it.
If anyone has photo-shop and could help me out, I would greatly appreciate it.

All this team creation is great, but does anyone know how this will all fit into the game itself? For example, are we going to be able to have FCS seasons, playoffs, etc? Are FCS teams rated accordingly (ie. Even the best players should really only be in the "70's", etc). Basically, even if you're playing with one of the top teams in the FCS this year, you should get absolutely crushed if you're playing a top 10 FBS program. Also, if playing in dynasty mode, you shouldn't be getting 4 and 5 star recruits on a regular basis (if at all).
Sorry to sound like a downer, just wanted to see how this fits into the bigger picture of the game.

Sweet! What stadiums are you using for each team?

Sweet! What stadiums are you using for each team?
I tried to use relevant stadiums that would make sense for each schools (App has UVA, not too big of a stadium, has a grass hill in one end zone, is set in rolling mountains, etc. I don't remember which stadium I used to GaSo, but I tried to keep it in a lowland setting with open endzones, etc.) I really didn't want to give everyone UT sized places, as I kind of wanted to keep it like all of the schools just made a modest FBS jump.
Also, I tried to coordinate the colors of the stadium, as I bet the created schools colors wouldn't overwrite what was set up throughout.

That is what I did as well for my Furman, GSU and App Jump.
App State = Southern Miss stadium (33K)
GSU = SMU's Stadium (~32K)
Furman = Ball State Stadium (25K)

Once you create a school how do you make them public/private or how do you save them? I've gotten to the end on two occasions and hit save and when I click on "My Schools", nothing shows up.xmadx
*Also, how do you get a 3rd logo? (i.e. conference, bowl)*

I've created Georgia Southern and Furman so far and I'm about to start on App. For the stadiums, I like: GSU- SMU
App- Southern Miss
Furman- Ohio (not state, just Ohio)
I think these 3 are almost perfect matches for how Kidd Brewer, Paulson, and Paladin stadiums would look if they were expanded a little to make a 1-A jump.
As a loyal GSU fan, I have a few tips for some of the others who have made GSU teams.
No names on the backs of the jerseys.
The secondary logo on the field should be on the 35 yard line.
The endzone should be bare except for "Eagles" written in white italics.
As for the offensive style, I think that the spread or west coast are the most accurate for GSU's current style. I love the triple option as much as anybody else, but it's just not what we use these days.

I'm treating the rosters as a work in progress. There are certain positions on each team where you can be pretty certain of the starters (Armanti at App, Chapple at GSU) but much of it isn't determined yet. Hatcher treats each season as a fresh start and every player starts at square one when it comes to securing a spot, so GSU probably won't have a definitive depth chart for a while yet. I really do love the thoroughness that us SoCon people are putting into creating accurate teams. Can any fans of the other SoCon teams tell me what style offense and defense best matches the teams? I'm thinking run balanced spread for ASU, ground attack for Furman, pass happy for Elon, and option run for Wofford of course.

Go with Florida's offense for Wofford and boost up the run to 60-40 or 65-35

It means football prestige (by FBS standards). 6 stars is for top programs like USC or Oklahoma; 1 star is for cupcakes & lesser-known schools like Idaho & FIU.
You can set the academic letter grade on one of the later team creation screens (along with facilities, coach experience, etc.).

I'm thinking most FCS players in the 60-68 range with the top players (All-Americans) anywhere from 68-75. And the top NFL prospects above 75.
Back-ups: 50-60
Starters: 60-68
All-American Honorable Mentions: 68-70
All-American 2nd Team: 71-73
All-American 1st Team: 73-76
NFL Prospects: 76+

Not even close; that's more like DIII or NAIA range. I'm thinking more like 10+ points higher than that. NFL prospects/All-Americans above 85 (if not in the 90s for the better ones); good, all-conference caliber players (depending on the conference, of course) at 80-85; and others below that.
The very best FCS teams should probably get about a C+/B- overall rating. I'm not sure what average number that translates too for the starters, exactly, but I'm guessing it's about 80 based on recent installments of the series. I don't think there's a way to check the overall rating on the teambuilder, though.

Hmm alright. Well let's take a look at last year's game. The most recent FCS team to make the transition is Western Kentucky (a team that we can say was a top FCS team). They are rated as a 62 Overall. There best player was an 82 HB, then a 80 C, 79 LOLB, and then quite a few players in the mid 70s. They have very few players in the 60s.
So yes, I am going to agree with you. So how does this breakdown sound?
Back-Ups: 65-75
Starters: 72-78
All-American Honorable Mentions: 76-80
All-American 2nd Team: 78-83
All-American 1st Team: 82-86
NFL Prospects: 85-90
Is that better or am I being to generous or still to stingy?

First, I don't know if you could say WKU was a top FCS team when they moved up since they went 6-5 their last two years in FCS, but anyway…
I think your new rating standards are still a tad stingy, but close. My standards were the rough guideline I used when I edited some FCS teams in the PS2 version of NCAA Football '08. From what I saw of the 360 version of NCAA '09, the player ratings standards (relative to team overall rating/grade) were actually a little bit higher than that.
If I was to change one thing on your ratings guide, I would replace the "All-American" label for those 76-86 ratings with "All-Conference"—at least for the better conferences—and lump All-Americans in with the NFL prospects.

Armanti Edwards is a 93 overall on my version, mostly because I bumped his agility and elusiveness up. Lee Chapple is 88 due to his passing. I'm thinking that Scott Riddle will have similar stats as Chapple, being more of a pocket passer. Let's get some opinion and inside knowledge going on individual player stats.

I think average FCS players are in the low 70s. The average players on the best FCS teams are in the high 70s and low 80s with 1 or 2 in the 90s. At least, IMO that's how they should do it to be consistant, as the best teams in the FCS have the same talent level as the best teams in the MAC and Sun Belt.
The ratings for the FCS players back when they had FCS rosters are a joke. They had GSU's Jayson Foster with spped, agility, and jumping in the 70s xrolleyesx.

That looks about right. Now, remember to also try and rate based on FCS play as well. Such as a RB like David McCarty would be an 80 speed rate or so but would be higher in other things to give him a deserving rating of about 70 or 71. I would say while AE does not have very very high NFL prospects, only due to size and style of play, he should be a rarely high 88 or so rating.
Here are the players that I would give an especially high rating to, due to NFL prospects.
WR Andre Roberts, Citadel -85 or so rating
OT Vladimir Ducasse, UMASS- low to mid 80s
WR Donald Jones, YSU- most don't know who he is but I would give him a higher rating due to what he did late in 08 but not too high yet. Maybe 77 or 79?
DE Austen Lane, Murray State- high 70s
Here is the actual height, weight, and 40 times for the top NFL prospects so everyone knows who to give pretty high ratings to and to give accurate size/speed numbers to. Remember, that if a senior is not listed here he is likely pretty slow for his position, or is blazing fast and just not good.

In fact, here are 40 times on FCS seniors that I have. Remember that 4.45 is only like a 92-93 speed or so on the video game, which is good but not great on there, but very good for a FCS team. Scotty McGee should be the fastest FCS player with a 4.37 40 time.
Note: If you use my times in the game use the fastest time, if two are given. For example, Rod Williams of Alcorn has a 4.45 and 4.49 listed so use his 4.45.

Thought you guys might find this interesting. Based on NFL data I have here are the fastest seniors in all of college football. Interesting to note that the fastest is a D2 player and there is a FCS player in the top 10. It will be intriguing to see how these spring times compare to the NFL Combine times in February.

There should not be more than 15 players with a 4.29 or faster time in the entire nation so if you have 5-8 on your team that run 4.2s you are not playing with accurate ratings. :)

I have App and Furman down 100% with rosters, depth chart (very close to it), but I did exaggerate a little on the ratings. I am still mad that I can't get an accurately cropped WCU or The Citadel logo for their helmets....
Anyone have any luck with these? I know there are a few of you guys that have photo shop and could take out the white boarders from stuff available on the web....

I'm not sure if this is your exact problem, but you can use the "remove background" tool on the logo page to get rid of the white block around images. Just check the "remove background" box and then click on the image at various points to erase that part.

Scotty McGee should be the fastest FCS player with a 4.37 40 time.
incidentally, he ran this time outside (i believe in front of a Carolina Panthers scout and an unknown draft website scout)..... in the rain. not a "rainy day", in actual rain. apparently, after he finished, one of them (don't remember which) mouthed the word "Wow". i think he's our best NFL prospect in several years. we haven't had many of them.

Man, these rosters are killing me. Making the teams as far as uniforms and stadiums are concerned is a lot of fun, but getting all of the players in the right slots with appropriate skills takes so long. Especially when half of the teams out there don't know who's going to be playing where.

Don't I know it....I just finished up The Citadel, and I am about ready to quit and just use other created ones for the rest of the conference.....I have ASU, FU, GSU, El Cid, and WoCo all completely up to date with depth-charts, but I am about done. I have the rest of the teams (WCU, Sammy, UTC and Elon) partially done, but I know I can use Phoenix Phanatic's Elon and I can just make do with inaccurate rosters for the rest....

I follow UMass football closer than 95% of those out there and even I struggled big time trying to figure out the right ratings, depth charts and which freshmen are worth putting on the limited roster count. I can only imagine doing it for an entire conference.
FWIW if anyone's looking for a UMass team, you can find mine if you search for Rocks_22 as the author.

Anyone downloading App. St., please don't DL the James Burchette one. It is by far the most popular of all teams, but the uniforms are badly inaccurate. The absolute best one I've found so far is by NCoffey. It just annoys me that everyone who doesn't know better will DL the most popular App. St. team, and will think that's how we look. It's also rated 4 stars out of 5 which is beyond me.

Well, I think if you have some music files on your ps3 or xbox, you can use them as some custom stadium sounds, such as a fight song when you score. But, when you try to do it, you can only make it play for all teams, or individual FBS teams. I can't find a place where you could make it play for the created teams.
In other words, the only way to do it for a created team is make it play for all touchdowns, in which it would play for your and your oppenents I assume. Which would be pointless.

That's probably if you just want to be GIVEN extra pipeline states without going through the trouble of actually doing it in the game.
It's been my experience that you can create as many pipelines as you want in the game in the normal dynasty mode. Basically, you will have a pipeline to a state as long as you have at least 5 players from that state on your roster (it might actually be 3 players now).
So all you have to do is sign a few guys from one particular state and then that state will automatically become a recruiting pipeline for you. However, if you only have 5 guys on your team from Texas and one of the guys graduates then you would have to make sure you recruit another guy from Texas to keep that pipeline...I'm assuming this has not changed in NCAA football 2010.

For those who care (probably very few) I downloaded JMU, ASU, Georgia Southern, UD, Richmond, SIU and UNI onto my system. I wasn't sure what to do with UNI and SIU so I left them out, as well as Richmond (size), but when I started my dynasty with JMU I moved App State, UD and JMU into CUSA East and Georgia Southern into CUSA West to retain some of these rivalries (and also because these are probably the 4 east coast teams most likely and most willing to move up in the near future).
I play @ UD in week 3 (after Maryland of course) and host Appalachian State in week 8! Georgia Southern isn't on my slate this season but I look forward to playing them in 2010. I haven't even played a game in my dynasty and I'm already loving it!
Also, just to note, my buddy and I played JMU vs. App State earlier (he's a JMU student too but I wouldn't let him play with my team and we both wanted to re-enact the rivalry) and I was up at halftime 14-10. We quit to play some mini-games but the teams were very evenly matched!

A note to everyone creating teams through Teambuilder: the run/pass percentage number (under the program tab) is the passing percentage, NOT the running percentage.
If you set it to 80, your team will be geared to pass 80% of the time; if you set it to 20, your team will be geared to run 80% of the time; etc. It works in the same direction for the defensive number, too.

Yes, you have to create teams online through Teambuilder. There isn't an in-game create-a-team.

I noticed that none of your teams came up either. I am guessing that you created your teams as a "web" team, instead of choosing "PS3" or "360" and that is preventing them from showing up on either platform.

That is probably due to the fact that you have to be an Xbox Live GOLD subscriber to download the teams in the first place and because this is a paid subscription, you need to be online to verify your "purchase." I'm just assuming. Let me know if anyone who just has the Silver subscription has downloaded any teams.

My silver subscription works to download the teams...its just in order to use the custom logos...it must connect every time I load the team in order to play with them. This is what I've experienced and collected from the internet. However, I have heard that if you use the team(s) in dynasty mode...you do not need to be connected once you load them into the dynasty in the first place. This looks promising (judging from my checking TeamBuilder today) but I only have a PSP, so I can't download anything from TeamBuilder. :(

Can you change your web based team builder email?
I just learned about a trick to track down your teams if you're having problems. Change the team name to something like "My Georgia Southern" then search for it. Once you download it, change the name back, then go to manage my teams and check for updates.
I found mine by changing it from FCS or FBS to Other, a lot less teams are on Other.
But you are saying you can change the team name on the console?

No, just change the team name on the web builder to something unique so that you can find it and download it. After that, use the web builder to change it back. On your console, go to team management and select "check for updates."

Any xbox360 users want a pre-sale code for 13 additional teams? I got one when I picked up my copy and they've sent me another in an email so I have extra. Let me know...first come first serve xrotatehx
Would love that code if you've still got it.

Just picked up NCAA 10 at Target (buy one get one 1/2 off). Since I don't have internet set up at my place yet I'll have to wait though xbawlingx
For anyone who has the game, how does the game incorporate the custom teams? Can I grab every FCS team and set up every conference? I saw something about a twelve team limit, not sure what that was referering to though

You can only have 12 teams downloaded onto your console at a time unless you pre-ordered and got a special code. You select each user created team you want, download it, and then use it however you want. You can use them in dynasty by replacing FBS teams. I've swapped out all the SunBelt teams and replaced them with my SoCon creations.

I started a fun little dynasty if anybody is interested in following. I have replaced a realistic (rosters and uniforms) Cal Poly Mustangs team and replaced Utah St. in the WAC. Here is the link to my pretty nifty website for it:

That's actually a pretty nifty Cal Poly site you got there. How long did that take you?

It was actually not too bad. webs.com hosts free websites and I came across another Dynasty type website that I used a lot for templates and such. So I just took the templates (copy and paste) and put in Cal Poly's info and away I go! haha :)

Well, you can get 120 teambuilder slots… but you have to pay 800 Microsoft points ($10).
I don't know if that's available on the PS3 version, though.

I swapped out all the MAC teams except Ohio since they have 13 teams, and replaced them with the Great West and some Missouri Valley teams. I just spanked NDSU 70-35 yesterday!!!:D

I did not add all the teams I created or downloaded. I put Montana, Montana State, Weber State, and EWU in the WAC. I moved Boise State and Hawaii to the MWC. I moved LA Tech and New Mexico State to the Sunbelt. I moved TCU to Conference USA (west). I left rest of the BSC out being I did not want to drop any other programs.
I also added Appalachian State to the Sunbelt and NDSU to the MAC. I do not remember which teams were dropped in my dynasty.

That's all I needed to know
One dynasty that has every team from FCS moved up
One dynasty with just a handful of teams moved up
One dynasty with FBS intact

120? That many? I thought 25 was the max. This whole game is full of "extras" that you have to pay for. It's kind of rediculous. This is one thing I hate about the modern online style of gaming, it opens it up to what amounts to extortion.

I think I'm about to download my teams which include
The Socon
JMU
Delaware
Montana
Winthrop (which doesn't exist)
BTW the number you can download is 13 I'm fairly certain, if not Chattanooga just won't make the cut.
