Unbeaten Roy Jones Jr. (22-0) scores a unanimous 12-round decision over Bernard Hopkins (22-2) to claim the vacant IBF middleweight title at RFK Stadium in Washington, D.C. Jones clearly shows greater punching speed and elusiveness, using effective combinations and right-hand leads, never letting Hopkins get untracked. There are no knockdowns in the bout as Jones wins by 116-112 on all three judges’ scorecards.
