Caught part of a radio broadcast tonight driving home and heard, what sounded like the Phillies and Tom Gordon have reached a 'preliminary ' agreement for 3 years at $18 million. I've heard differing views on this guy. Certainly cheaper than Wagner, but how much less are we getting??

I'm not a fan of this guy Gordon. At all.
I think he is 38 year old (2 years older than Wagner??) and had a few saves last year. But then again, with Rivera as the closer for the Yanks, how many save opportunities could Gordon actually get.
I think it's a major dropoff from Wagner and Gordon will be getting his share of boos many times in the up coming season.

Makes no sense to me. Wagner is 34 and they wouldn't give him a four year contract. Gordon is 38 and they'll give him a three year contract???!!! Yes, they're saving money with Gordon ($18M vs. $31M), but I'm not thrilled with this. He's been a set-up man for the last 4 years.

Well, all I can say is keep the fingers crossed. Gordon seems like a class guy--at least the way he handled himself at the press conference. They're giving him The Tugger's #45 to wear--wow. He better be effective from the get-go or the infamous Phillies Phans will cry for him to remove it!
