5/21/2005:
Afleet Alex, nearly knocked off his feet in a mid-race collision, miraculously rights himself and gallops to a four-length victory in the Preakness. With jockey Jeremy Rose holding on for dear life, Afleet Alex shakes off his brush with Scrappy T at the head of the stretch and pulls away from the field in the final furlong. Scrappy T recovers to finish second, and Kentucky Derby winner Giacomo gets third. Despite the nearly calamitous bumping by the two leaders, there is no foul claim made and no inquiry by the stewards.
