View Full Version : Nuggets, WWE "Double Booked"

This should get interesting. WWE says the show will go on. It is a bit late for a change, especially when you factor in that WWE's RAW is set to be going on. It's not like it's a house show...it's Monday Night Raw!
NBA is not moving and WWE could have all sorts of problems due to their TV time slot which has to be filled. Do love how Vince says in the article that the Denver owner had no faith in his team!
World Wrestling Entertainment said it is booked at the arena for an episode of Monday Night Raw, the same night the Nuggets are slated to host the Lakers in Game 4 of the Western Conference finals.
WWE chairman Vince McMahon told The Associated Press he doesn't believe there was "any malice, just ineptness," on the part of Kroenke Sports, which owns the team and the building, but can't tolerate the company "just simply throwing us out on our ear."

The NHL screwed up in the Caps series and now the NBA screwed up. The easy solution would have been switching the dates of the Cavs-Orl games with the Den-LAL games. Then no conflict. NBA is at complete fault here.

So you have an organization with pre-determined results and was more popular ten years ago, then you have the WWE.
The NBA will have the event more than likely, but Kroenke is going to lose a lot of money on this one once WWE and Jeremy McDevitt get done with this.

That WWE event is going to be moved so fast, it may be called Tuesday night Raw.
You think the City of Denver is going to backseat their main tenant, national tv, the NBA, and million's in revenue spent in the city for a 1 night event like WWE.xlolx
I like the WWE but they don't stand a chance of being in that place when game 4 roll's around. xlolx

Agreed with everything you said but the WWE is going to make a good amount of money (millions) before they leave Denver through a payoff.

Tuesday Night Raw? We'll see...
I do agree that WWE is going to have to get paid off because of the mistake. Wonder if the USA network is also going to get some cash as well.

If that happens, I bet WWE doesn't get to come back to this venue for a while

NBA is not going to be playing on Monday night. Maybe in the daytime, but the time slot was filled by the WWE. Too bad NBA.

Stern just said the NBA doesn't lose smack-downs xlolx

Knowing Vince, he's behind the scenes on the phone with Stern cooking up a good storyline for the show. Hey why not? WWE is clearly not what they used to be as the industry has nosedived since 2001 and some good crossover work could do good business.

they can have a massive street fight around the arena during the game... It can spill onto the court during halftime :D

You've got to be kidding. There will be basketball at the Pepsi Center on Monday night, no doubt about it.

The Staples Center has contacted WWE and offered their arena next Monday night as a replacement venue for Raw.
WWE will return to Denver in August for the cancelled show.

Where else would WWE go...? Of course - LA! Just helped the storyline...
World Wrestling Entertainment says it is moving its Monday night event to Los Angeles because of a conflict with the Pepsi Center in Denver.
The Nuggets are scheduled to host the Lakers on Monday in Game 4 of the Western Conference finals, but WWE had previously booked the arena for an episode of Monday Night Raw.

Well this is too bad. I was hoping for the WWE to hold the arena and contract hostage and just do their show and give Denver the big middle finger.

WWE is still going to get a good chunk of change out of this. Breach of contract with no out clauses = easy settlement in court. Jeremy McDevitt, the (in)famous WWE lawyer, will be all over this and get WWE (and himself) a 7-8 figure settlement out of this.

Figure the Pepsi Center folks will owe them...
1) the gate amount from what they would have got (including merchandise, etc)
2) the money to cover any expenses to move to LA (changing booked flights, hotels, etc)
3) whatever costs incurred with the new date, including handling refunds of anyone who could not make the rescheduled date

4) "Emotional Distress" xlolx
A lot of those numbers are estimated numbers. My guess is WWE will estimate those numbers to a sell out, which was very likely in Denver, all their merch sold, not to mention canceling their Colorado Springs Smackdown/ECW TV tapings on Tuesday because of the move (Staples Center will host Raw on Monday and Smackdown/ECW on Tuesday because of travel logistics and they use the same production team for both TV taping days).
So that's two live events with very likely sellouts, which will up the price even more.

I know the Pepsi Center is the large arena in Denver, but is there not another venue large enough to hold RAW?

WWE declined use of the smaller Denver Arena (holds 10,000). Looked it up on Wikipedia and that thing holds like 7,000. Same goes for Magness Arena at Denver Univ that holds no more than 6,000.

Vince and a few of his wrestling minions were in Cincy last week...some of those guys were HUGE! xeekx
They stayed at the same hotel I was at and they gave the hotel staff tickets...probably to make up for the fact that they ate all of the buffet breakfast...cleaned the place out! xlolx
They gave me a pair of tickets but I gave them to another guest. No interest in fake wrestling. Chief Jay Strongbow is a distant memory. xnodx
