0-for-7 with 12 runners stranded on base tying a team record xeekx

At least he still has his humor xlolx Still early in the season, look for him to start heating up.

ANAHEIM, Calif.(AP) Jeff Mathis and Torii Hunter came through for the Los Angeles Angels . The Boston Red Sox keep waiting for David Ortiz to do the same.

Mathis hit an RBI single in the 12th inning, Hunter had a two-run double and an RBI triple, and the Angels beat the Red Sox 5-4 on Thursday.

Ortiz went 0 for 7 and stranded 12 runners - tying Trot Nixon 's team record - as his average plummeted to .208. The five-time All-Star dressed slowly while facing his corner locker, then turned around and saw a swarm of reporters surrounding him before saying: ''Sorry, guys. I don't feel like talking today. Just put down, 'Papi stinks.'''

How bout a tough night for Boston:

He's finding out how hard it is to play baseball when you're clean.

And you don't have Manny protecting you.

he is a non-athlete who is only in baseball because of the hated designated hitter position.

oh please.... the best seasons of his career came after steroid testing began. Wheres his suspension from a failed test?

Testing started in 2004. Its hard to point at a guy like Ortiz and claim his on roids since his best seasons have come during the time of testing and he has never failed a test.

You want to pin point the reason for lack of HRs... look at his wrist.

Another possible cause for Papi's downturn.... He very well could be older then he says he is.

he's a fat, out of shape liability to any national league team. in fact regardless of his bat, which in the past has been quite good he could not be an everyday player in a league that plays ACTUAL BASEBALL......YOU KNOW WHERE EVERY PLAYER ON THE FIELD TAKES HIS TURN AT BAT.

i never said he could be an everyday player in a league without a DH.... but he could have been a solid platoon player

That's almost as bad as the time I said Chris Duncan isn't really that bad of a left fielder.

Blaming this on possible steroids usage isn't exactly fair but is (of course) not out of the realm of possibility.

However, players of David Ortiz' body type have historically had their production decline at a fast rate once they get to their mid 30's (see: Mo Vaughan, Cecil Fielder, etc.). And like UNHWC said, he could very well be 35ish and not 33.

He is overweight and has a slow bat...

If we say he's off the juice or lied about his age he's not honest either way.

It's obvious to me he was on the juice:

2004: 41HR
2005: 47HR
2006: 54HR
2007: 35HR
2008: 23HR
2009: zip - especially after he knew in the offseason Manny was busted.

Take your PC blinders off people, next thing you'll tell me is Brady Anderson & Lenny Dykstra were clean too....

Also as a sports writer said today... Ortiz is at the age where players began the downward spiral pre steroids era... though if Ortiz is totally done at this point it went much quicker...

We very well could see Ortiz happening to many superstars in the coming years

Ok so if he was on steroids all those seasons... where is his suspension from failing a test?
