It's Lehigh verus Lafayette for all the marbles in the PL Championship tournament finals today. Lehigh defeated the Leopards, 1-0 in the opening round on Thursday, and beat Bucknell 6-2 yesterday to reach the finals. Lisa Sweeney pitched a 2-hitter in the win over Lafayette, and gave up only 4 hits to the Bison.
Lafayette, after losing to Lehigh, has beaten Colgate and Bucknell to get to the final round of the double elimination tourney. If Lehigh wins the 11 a.m. game they will be the tournament champions for the 5th time in the last six years. A Lafayette win would require a second game, starting 30 minutes after the conclusion of game one.
Odds are that Lisa Sweeney, Lehigh's all-time winningest pitcher and home run hitter will be in the circle this morning so it would take a herculean effort by the 'pards to make it a doubleheader.

Lehigh exploded for 9 runs in the 8th inning, ALL WITH TWO OUT, to defeat Lafayette in the first game of today's finals to win the PL Softball Championship. Lisa Sweeney, Sr. Co-Captain, was named Tournament MVP for the third time in her career, pitching a three hitter today after twirling a two hit shutout over Lafayette on Thursday, and a 4 hitter on Friday. In addition she was 7 for 9.
Lafayette's Kasey Karr matched Sweeney in regulation as the Mountain Hawks stranded runners in scoring position in the 5th, 6th and 7th innings, included a bases loaded one-out situation in the 6th.
Lehigh struggled early in the season down South in running up against a lot of national powers from the Big 12 and SEC, finishing March at 10-13. However, the Mountain Hawks sprinted home going 26-3-1, to run its record to 36-16-1.
Lehigh will find out who and where they will play in the NCAA Tournament on Sunday night.
