This is just speculation, but it's being WIDELY speculated today. Jerome Bettis will not have his contract renewed by NBC, and will be left out in the cold come this season on the network. Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald mentioned this when Madden's retirement announcement came down, and now Neil Best is reporting the same thing....

Three years after his much-ballyhooed, post-Super Bowl, announced-during-the-Winter Olympics hiring, it is likely NBC football analyst Jerome Bettis will not have his contract renewed for the coming season and beyond.

Late last season NBC moved Bettis and Tiki Barber out of its crowded studio and into the field to serve primarily as well-connected reporters.

THANK GOD, HE IS AWFUL!!!

Neither he nor Tiki really have a whole lot to add to the football conversation. Being a former player and smiling a lot can only get you so far.

Guys like Troy Aikman and Deon Sanders have lasted as long as they have because they actually make salient points from time to time.

You had me at "Troy Aikman." You lost me with "Deion Sanders."

I like Deion (if that's the correct spelling) simply for the fact that he's provocative. Bettis and Barber basically just smile a lot and add nothing.

I wish somebody would take Shannon Sharpe out - I can't understand a word the guy says. It's like he has a mouthful of marbles - probably makes some decent points, but I can't get past his difficulty getting them out.

Chris Collingsworth leaving wouldn't hurt my feelings either.
