FORMER UNIVERSITY OF WYOMING QUARTERBACK TO TRANSFER TO INDIANA STATE

Chris Stutzriem decided Monday that he wanted to be a Sycamore but didn't make it official today until he could get a hold of Indiana State Head Coach Trent Miles and let him know the news.

Stutzriem was a redshirt freshman this past year at Wyoming where he led the Cowboys past San Diego State and national FBS power Tennessee. He finished up the 2008 season completing 55 passes in 98 attempts (56.1% completion percentage) for 660 yards, 5 touchdowns and 5 interceptions. He had a quarterback rating of 119.33.

Chris was rated a 3-star recruit (#18 overall in Oklahoma) by Rivals.com coming out of Oklahoma when he chose Wyoming in 2006. He chose Indiana State over Texas A&M Commerce and will be eligible immediately since he is coming from FBC to the FCS division.

Stutzriem came to Wyoming out of Eisenhower High in Lawton, Oklahoma in 2007 and redshirted.

Last season as a redshirt freshman he was one of three different quarterbacks to start and the fourth to see playing time. Stutzriem was 2-2 as a starter and completed 55 of 98 passes, and had team-highs of 660 yards and five touchdowns. He also threw five interceptions.

Stutzriem won his first two starts against San Diego State and at Tennessee, and lost his last two at UNLV and at home to Colorado State. UW finished 4-8 overall and 1-7 in the Mountain West Conference.

High School: Stutzriem was one of the most decorated quarterbacks in the state of Oklahoma following his senior season in 2006. He earned All-State Class 6A West from the Oklahoma Football Coaches Association, and achieved Honorable Mention All-State honors from The Oklahoman. Stutzriem was named the Old Spice Red Zone Player of the Year in Class 6A. He was also honored as the Offensive Player of the Year in his district. He played in the largest classification in the state of Oklahoma -- Class 6A. In the football recruiting hotbed that is the state of Oklahoma, Rivals.com ranked Stutzriem as the No. 18 top recruit in the entire state in its Oklahoma Top 30 Prospects as of January 2007. He was also the No. 1 ranked quarterback in the state of Oklahoma by Rivals.com, which described Stutzriem as having "undoubtedly the strongest arm instate this year." His senior season, he ranked No. 7 in the state of Oklahoma for all classifications in passing yards, throwing for 2,382 yards. He completed 161 of 225 pass attempts (71.6 percent) for 19 touchdowns and threw only eight interceptions. He also rushed for 148 yards and nine additional TDs. His Lawton Eisenhower High team ranked No. 8 in the state for all classifications in passing offense, averaging 208.91 yards per game, and ranked No. 12 in total offense, averaging 404.00 yards per game. He was elected a team captain as a senior. As a junior, Stutzriem completed 113 of 207 pass attempts (54.6 percent) for 1,748 yards, 15 TDs and only seven interceptions. He also rushed for six additional touchdowns. In addition to football, he was an outstanding baseball player, and was ranked as the No. 1 pitcher in the state by The Oklahoman, and earned All-State, All-District and All-Area honors as a junior. With his combined football and baseball abilities, he was ranked as the No. 2 dual-sport athlete in the state of Oklahoma. He was a member of the National Honor Society all four years of high school, and also served on his high school's student council all four years. Stutzriem played for head football coach Bill Whiteley at Lawton Eisenhower High. Stutzriem was also recruited by Colorado State, Illinois, Oklahoma State, SMU, Stanford, Texas Tech and Tulsa.

Personal: Born Dec. 26, 1988, he is the youngest of three sons of Carolynn and Gerald Stutzriem. His brother Adam played football for two years at Panhandle State University in Goodwell, Okla. Stutzriem plans on majoring in kinesiology and health promotion.

Ex-Wyoming QB Stutzriem headed to ISU

TERRE HAUTE — Former University of Wyoming quarterback Chris Stutzriem will transfer to Indiana State University and will play for the Sycamores next fall. Stutzriem confirmed his intention to transfer to the Tribune-Star on Tuesday.

Stutzriem, who hails from Lawton, Okla., is 6-foot-4 and 235 pounds.
