Southland Conference Establishes Presence on Facebook, Twitter
FRISCO, Texas – Fans of the Southland Conference are now able to find the latest updates about the league and its 12 member institutions on the popular social networking Web sites, Facebook and Twitter.
“These initiatives put the Southland Conference where many of our fans already are,” Todd Lamb, assistant commissioner for communications and media services, said. “They will help the league connect with our fans and other visitors in a less formal setting while still allowing us to tell the great stories going on within our conference.”
Facebook bills itself as a social utility that helps people communicate more efficiently with their friends, family and coworkers. The Southland page on Facebook will provide its fans a constant feed of updated news and other information about the 17 sports for which the conference sponsors championships. To become a fan of the Southland Conference on Facebook, log on to www.facebook.com (http://www.facebook.com) and search “Southland Conference.”
Twitter is a free social networking and micro-blogging service that allows users to communicate and stay connected through quick 140 character messages, similar to a Facebook status update. To follow the Southland Conference on Twitter, log on to www.twitter.com (http://www.twitter.com) and search “SouthlandSports.” Once on the SouthlandSports page, click the button in the upper-left hand corner of the page that says “Follow” to instantly access up-to-date Tweets about what is going on in the Southland Conference.
Most updates will drive traffic back to Southland.org, the official Web site of the Southland Conference, further enhancing the already popular destination for fans of the league.
