For anybody else following this, this would be a huge get for ISU. The Brands name is like gold in the state of Iowa. Can't imagine how much this would step up the rivalry.

Not sure if the article is credible at all. The writer believes the Atlanta Olympic games were held in 2005. Of course there were no Olympic games in 2005 and the Atlanta games were in 1996. Who the hell is this guy's editor?

Brands... I'm sure he'll get high recommendations from Virginia Tech.

That would be interesting....is there a sister that UNI could hire, just to round out the state? :)

Sadly, UNI is locked in with their coach for a few more years. A Brands sister would probably be an upgrade.
@ ngineer, I'm sure VT hates the Brands family, but if your last name is Gable or Brands you can do no wrong in the state of Iowa. Up until a week ago, you could have added Sanderson to that list, as well.

I was actually pretty surprised to see how much Tom Brands is paid in the latest public listing of salaries....I expected it to be much higher than $130,000/yr. I imagine with a couple NCs though, that will be going up next time the contract gets negotiated.

If you live in Iowa, it's been all over the news. Short answer is Cael says Pennsylvania has the top wrestling talent in the country and Penn State has the resources to make a NC run. What he isn't saying but everyone is gossiping is that the ISU AD is a putz and he wanted to get out.

Both are true. Pennsylvania has incredible wrestling talent, not to mention nearby states such as New Jersey, Ohio and New York. A lot of college wrestling coaches in the state are now worried that they will not be able to recruit top talent in PA because they'll be willing to walk on at Penn State.

Endorsements and performance bonuses reportedly add about $100k to that salary.

That was his brother, Tom. Who can blame him for leaving Va. Tech for one of the biggest powerhouses in college wrestling, and his alma mater?
