The CSN Way: Liar's Poker in the NFL Draft

NFL general managers are playing high-stakes poker this week, and they’ll lie their way all the way to Saturday in order to get those players that are high on their draft boards.
While all appears to fair in love, war, and the NFL Draft, of all the fabrications leading into the draft this weekend the one that could be most untrue concerns FCS-level players. The old gag that “he did great - but it was against a ‘lower level of competition’” - isn’t true now, and never really has been.
That won’t stop NFL general managers from spouting the same old liar’s poker bluff - even though teams are scouting FCS games against that so-called “lower-level” competition just as closely as FBS games. NFL teams, as always, are licking their chops trying to steal away the next Jerry Rice, Terrell Owens or Jared Allen. And it would hardly be a surprise to hear an FCS name - or maybe even two - sneak their way into the first round on Saturday.
