They're trying to send subliminal messages to their fans to buy more beer. xlolx

Look at the upper body strength of that thing! No doubt!

Apparently the Detroit fanbase has some history with tweaking the helmet design to reflect how they feel about their team:
From The Heckler in 2007:
As he dressed prior to Thursday's practice at the team's Allen Park practice facility, Detroit Lions receiver Roy Williams could not believe what he was seeing. The lion on Williams' helmet, famous for his uncanny ability to hold his eternal leaping pose, was lying down.
"Everybody check your helmets!" Williams shouted across the locker room. "My lion isn't leaping anymore."

Ugh, yet another team that can't leave well-enough alone, uniform-wise. Things really started going downhill when the 49ers and Dolphins added that "shadow" effect to the numbers on their jerseys. Then the Broncos screwed with what was one of the best color schemes in pro sports. I wasn't a fan of the Rams "metallicizing" their colors, either. And don't even get me started on the Bills.

On the other hand, I have to give Tampa props for ridding us of:

I'm just happy that my Toron... Buffalo Bills play them in the pre-season and not the regular season. The Bills provide me plenty of heartache each year, but I would never hear the end of it if they were the first team to lose to the Lions in two years.

You need that if you're a fan of Detroit.
Honestly, I think it's a nice update. The font change was long overdue and they really didn't mess with the mascot much at all.

I don't know, maybe it can have a pewter effect like the Bucs. xconfusedx Of course it's worn off now. xlolx

Agreed, that was one of the best uni upgrades ever. xnodx I'm also a big fan of the Giants and Jets having gone back to their old-style helmets.

Oh come one, I liked the old Buccaneer uni's ... like the new look better (just wish they wouldn't be a pain in the Saints side each year)

I liked the color scheme, actually, but the helmet decal was just awful.

And why in hell did Pittsburgh abandon their classic block numbers? Are they trying to look more like Denver and their hideous font? I do give them props for keeping the one-sided helmet logo though.

The Denver change was the worst
I always rooted for Elway to win the Super Bowl, and I was happy when he finally did, but the new Broncos unis detracted from it just a bit for me. I'd always imagined that when he finally won it, he'd do it looking like this:

They should shed anything that had to do with their 0-16 season!

They should have done a complete makeover, though: new colors, new logo, new everything. All they did was slightly tweak what they already had. It's timid and uninspired.
