This year's crop of FCS players is down somewhat from last year, which saw 24 FCS players drafted. I don't think there will be any first rounders this year, but there should be at least 16 drafted overall and probably two second rounders (Sidbury and Jennings). Here's last year's tally, with the numbers being round, selection number in that round, and overal selection number:

1 16 16 Arizona Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie CB Tennessee State
1 18 18 Baltimore Joe Flacco QB Delaware
2 15 46 Cincinnati Jerome Simpson WR Coastal Carolina
2 27 58 Tampa Bay Dexter Jackson WR Appalachian State
3 3 66 Miami Kendall Langford DT Hampton
3 16 79 Houston Antwaun Molden CB Eastern Kentucky
3 17 80 Philadelphia Bryan Smith OLB McNeese State
3 33 96 Washington Chad Rinehart OT Northern Iowa
4 4 103 Tennessee William Hayes DL Winston-Salem St.
4 26 125 Oakland Arman Shields WR Richmond
4 34 133 Baltimore David Hale OT Weber State
5 11 146 Detroit Jerome Felton FB Furman
5 14 149 Arizona Tim Hightower RB Richmond
5 19 154 Atlanta Kroy Biermann OLB Montana
5 25 160 Tampa Josh Johnson QB San Diego
6 11 177 Cincinnati Corey Lynch FS Appalachian State
6 14 180 Washington Kareem Moore DB Nicholls State
6 27 193 Minnesota Jaymar Johnson WR Jackson State
6 34 200 Philadelphia Joe Mays ILB North Dakota State
6 38 204 Miami Lex Hilliard RB Montana
6 41 207 Cincinnati Matt Sherry TE Villanova
7 3 210 Kansas Brian Johnston DE Gardner-Webb
7 12 219 Buffalo Demetrius Bell OT Northwestern State
7 18 225 Arizona Brandon Keith OT Northern Iowa

Man I seen some of Barden's work outs. That guy is a beast. The letters F-C-S are the only things stopping that guy from being a first day pick.

Last year was a very good year for FCS. I don't see more than 3 or 4 guy going in the top 100. I would love to see a draft like last year more often though. There were some nice surprise picks such as Moore and some guys who went higher than I thought like Hilliard, Biermann, Johnson, Sherry, etc. Then there were some guys who fell like Johnston, Bell, and even Josh Johnson.

I think both Sidbury and Bomar are going first round. Why? Think the numbers game.

Sidbury is the fastest pure speed-rusher in the draft; someone will "take a chance" on him as a 1st rounder. No other pass-rusher comes close. The only question is where - I think middle-1st round.

Bomar isn't the No. 1 QB on the board, but I could easily see him as the No. 2 or No. 3 - because he's got better speed/elusiveness than anybody (even Sanchez). When was the last time 3 QBs didn't go in the first round? Sanchez is 1st, followed by the K-State kid (IMO) - but I think he sneaks in near the end of the 1st round.

After that, though, I see a really large dropoff until later in Day Two. Barden is a first-day pick, and there may be some others (Jason Williams, the DT from Hampton). But it's those mid-range picks where FCS is not well represented. There are 4-5 elite picks, then a huge dropoff.

Sidbury could sneak into round 1, depends on where English and Barwin go because I do believe they are rated higher. Bomar is not going first round. I think the highest he goes is mid 2nd but I predict he lands in the early to mid 3rd round. It would be great to see him go first though. Not sure I see the Hampton kid going that high. He has talent but also has some issues and I would predict 5th round range. If he goes 3rd round it would be indicative of where I think his talent could be at some point. I just wouldn't predict it but if there is one thing we know about the draft it is that the draft is unpredictable.

Agree about the kid from Hampton. I just have a feeling Bomar is going in the 1st - maybe to, oh, Jerry Jones trading up to get him?

Liberty College... really?

I'll keep that in mind when I post about Weber State Technical Institute. I almost went there to get my 1 year certificate, but my classes wouldn't transfer to any "real" schools. ;-)
